KIWOCE (KILIMAHEWA EDUCATIONAL CENTER) UPDATE

Flanked by Academic Headmaster, Godlisten Malle, and Business/IT Manager, Frank Fidas, some of the Center's student pose in front of Mt. Kilimanjaro on a sunny day! (Look carefully!)
Visiting teachers from the U.S. collaborated with KIWOCE's teachers for this summer's Enrichment Camp, bringing with them key teaching tools to promote active learning all year.
Technology is one of the critical ways that KIWOCE's Camp inspires area students. Here Taylor, a visiting U.S. high school senior, helps a camper navigate Office software.
The Study Huts (part of the Resiliency Garden in honor of our late Manager, Tom Kway) are such a great space for students to collaborate and enjoy all types of activities. The Huts also provide an additional tutoring and teaching space, as increased enrollment has now stretched KIWOCE's classroom occupancy to its limit.
Saturday's Boys and Girls Club allow neighboring teens to join KIWOCE's students in a full range of activities, from life skills coaching, to physical fitness and global awareness through videos. Here students visit a local ranch owned by Mr.Donald Kessy to see modern livestock keeping techniques and learn how to generate income by selling animals products like milk.
Take a look at KIWOCE's new girls hostel that will make it possible for 60-80 teenage girls and young women to stay at the Center while earning certificates and learning practical skills for self-sufficiency.
CONNECTS AUTISM TANZANIA BRINGS U.S. EXPERTISE TO LOCAL GROUPS, PROMOTES IEPS, DIAGNOSTIC AND CLASSROOM TOOLS
Elizabeth Ross, a U.S. certified Educational Diagnostician with a Masters in autism, introduced ABL basics and key concepts for dealing with teen social interactions to a special workshop for teachers, parents and children in the Makumbusho Unit.
Grace James, a CAT Program Manager, and Grace Lyimo continue to bring awareness about autism and other cognitive disabilities to village educators and residents, dispelling stigmas and pushing for classroom inclusion and community support services and groups.
Our dedicated Tanzanian staff at the Kilimahewa Educational Center (KIWOCE) joined Moira on the final day of this year's summer enrichment camp. These staff members and teachers, together with EdPowerment's  active Board, make our programs in Tanzania exceptional.

TODAY

Over 90 local students who have just completed primary school are coming to KIWOCE for a 10-week Pre-Form 1 (Secondary School) course to build their English and Math and other academics, while learning how to use a computer for the first time! They will join their secondary schools - or KIWOCE - when school begins in January (the Tanzanian school calendar).
