Sunday Worship, October 6,
9:30 & 11:15am
Join me this week when we explore the question, "When do you know you belong?” We continue the themes of reflection and renewal with Associate, Steve Burns, and members of the congregation speaking from their personal experiences. The Sparks Choir will sing the choral version of Olam Chesed Yibaneh, and the congregation? We’ll join them singing the refrain as a chant. You’re invited to help create the energy or allow it to carry you away. (And an aside: the Path to Belonging will be held Saturday, October 12 look for more information in the bulletin)
Chalice Lighting
Would you like to light the chalice on a Sunday morning? Please send your contact information to me. We always invite our newest members to light the chalice, and introduce them. Whether you are new, almost new, or a long-time member, let us know if you’d like the honor of lighting our chalice sculpture, the symbol of our faith. If you attend the 9:30am service, it’s a bonus!

Sunday, October 6 Evensong: Belonging
6:45-7:45pm
Rev. Beth Banks and Patty Schade, guest from the Davis Chorale
This Sunday’s Evensong is with readings, and chants with layers of melody and harmony. Help us weave some beauty together. The haunting steel drum returns in response to your requests. As always, an altar of candle light warms the evening, and prepares you for the week ahead.
We will continue Evensong, if possible. One important deciding factor is the interest of the congregation shown through attendance. Stay tuned for news of its continuation after October.

Rev. Morgan McLean, Congregational Life Minister
RevMcLean@uudavis.org
This week, I'm away, taking a few days to visit family before heading to St. Louis for the annual Board retreat of the Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council (UUPCC). This will be the fourth year I've chaired this board and find a lot of personal and professional fulfillment in the work. The UUPCC supports North American congregations in partnership with international Unitarian and UU congregations. These partnerships started in Transylvania over 25 years ago, and now include the Philippines, India, the United Kingdom and more. Building international connections takes intentional work based in mutual respect and a desire to understand others. While we each share common roots, each country has a unique branches of Unitarianism and Unitarian Universalism. Our twelve-member board focuses on the vision, structure, and financial sustainability of the organization. We have members from across the country and a mix of lay leaders and religious professionals. I got involved in this work when visiting the Transylvanian partner of the church I served in Pennsylvania. My week in Transylvania, celebrating the 400th anniversary of the church, connected me to those centuries of a struggle for religious freedom. Seeing Unitarians living their faith in very different ways. For several years UUCD also had a partner in Transylvania, and a trip was organized in 2013. Though this partnership has ended, there are still ways to learn and get involved. Each year in the Spring we have a visiting Unitarian scholar from Berkeley lead a Sunday morning service. And if you're interested in learning more about the UUPCC and trips you might join, check out the website: www.uupcc.org
