WE ARE LOOKING FOR MULTICULTURAL CHAMPIONS NOW!!
For the 5th year, the Social Planning Council is once again looking for nominations to honour local champions from diverse cultural backgrounds.  Our goal is to celebrate multiculturalism and show how diversity and inclusion strengthens our community by highlighting the contributions of local residents.
If you would like to nominate a community champion, it's simple! All we need is the Name of Nominee, Contact Information of Nominee (Phone and Email), and Short Description/Highlights.

Is your Multicultural Group Looking for Activities? Be Part of the Diwali Festival!! 

On Saturday, October 19th 5 pm  - 7 pm, the Vernon Performing Arts Centre invites multicultural groups to be part of their MarketPlace.  Table are inside and free unless merchandise is being sold.  There will be food trucks, henna, clothing and art for sale and they would welcome multicultural games, crafts, information or whatever your cultural group would like to sell or promote. If you would like to book a table, download the Vendor Form here.  Forms are due back by OCTOBER 4TH So don't Delay!! .

Diwalie in Vernon event posterFive days of interactive pop-up events hosted by various community partners culminating in a multicultural “Showcase” extravaganza on Saturday October 19 at 7 pm featuring numerous dance & musical performances by local groups & professional headliners who will have you up & dancing in the aisles!

September Multicultural MeetUp  
The Multicultural Meet UP was held on Sept. 17 at the Performing Arts Centre.  Attendees received an exclusive look at the back stage, saw their new website on the big screen,  and heard the various settings for audio. Thanks to Erin for the informative tour! 

The next meet up will be held in November. They are hosted by the Social Planning Council of the North Okanagan and the purpose is to connect people and groups together! We hope you'll join us next time! Watch this newsletter for info about the November Meet Up!
Contest OPEN NOW for Students! 

Students in grades kindergarten to Grade 12 are invited to create visual artwork that explores the importance of community and democracy in a new contest sponsored by the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia and the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

The Democracy & Me Art Contest.winners will receive a trip to Victoria and their artwork will be displayed in the provincial Parliament Buildings..  Artwork must be submitted by January 31, 2020.  For details on how to submit your entry.Please visit the The Democracy & Me Art Contest website.
