CBW News and Prayer Letter • Autumn 2019
Welcome to our latest Prayer Letter, which will keep you up to date with our book distribution ministry.

CBW had a stand at the recent Ligonier Conference Westminster, where a good amount of interest was shown. A presentation at the Grace Missions conference will be given at the end of October. It is CBW's tenth year of opertion and we are looking to the Lord for expansion plans for the future. The need is enormous.

September has been our busiest ever month, with the sorting of stock at our Cricklade depot almost completed, and over 1500 books sent out from this warehouse.

All this is only possible through Gods grace, His provision and your support! We thank you on behalf of these beneficiaries.

Thanks from Cameroon

Here are letters of thanks we received from two pastors in Cameroon over the Summer.

I am from the North West Region of Cameroon. I want to express gratitude for the box of books shipped to me this June. The books are wonderful and so support in my theological studies and ministry. Every mate of mine wants to read the books and everyone is appreciating the books.

The books are Evangelical in doctrine, they are each concerning a course I offer in school, the books are either expositing a chapter of the Bible or a book of the Bible. I love these books!

Accept greetings from Cameroon

I'm so thankful for the last books received by your organisation. It was rich and eye opening to spiritual truth.  I was able to use it to build up our leadership by training them using most of the materials. (Picture shows graduation.)

Thanks so much for your generosity - I would like to receive more books, please. God bless you.

Latest from Malawi
Joster Jumbe reports on the latest teaching and book distribution work.

The Summer was a busy time for us. Books were distributed to 110 pastors at a one-day conference in Chikhwawa district. We are currently serving many Churches, Mission Boards, Colleges, Child Care Centers, Prisons, etc. Our vision is to reach thousands of pastors in Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique with Chichewa/Chinyanja literature to all non-English speaking pastors. At the same time, we will also be training and distributing English literature to English speaking pastors in both rural and urban areas.

We have received a request from the president of Mozambique Baptist Church Convention to distribute Chichewa books to all their churches in the Chichewa speaking provinces. About five provinces speak or understand Chichewa. Mozambique has 7 provinces and is seven times bigger than Malawi. We have so far covered a huge area hence the need for production of thousands of books to meet the overwhelming demands. CBW is making a great impact in this part of Africa.

At Ntcheu we trained pastors on Christ-centred preaching, and why it is necessary to present Jesus Christ in every sermon. We distributed different books to help them in expanding their knowledge.

One pastor - aged over 80 - traveled over a long distance by his bicycle to collect books for his fellow pastors. Another came to our office to collect books, and asking for leadership training in his area of Kim village.

Many leaders reported to us that due to lack of literature, they have been using Jehovah's Witness literature and most of them were misled by this heretic movement. Reformed literature distribution is opening their eyes against the false teachings of this cult.

During our travels to various places in Malawi and Mozambique, we went to Nayuchi where we taught the Bible doctrines from the Westminster Confession of Faith and Baptist Confession of Faith 1689. We began with a sermon from Mark 1:40-45.

After this, we went to sleep at an Inn. It was very interesting that when the local sex-workers saw a Bible on the dash board of the car. They came to us and asked us to preach to them and pray with them. Pastor Pelete preached from the book of Romans Chapter 1. After the sermon, we sang with them a stanza of the hymn: The Great Physician is now near.

The Great Physician now is near,
  The sympathizing Jesus;
He speaks the drooping heart to cheer,
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus!

We left for Mozambique on the following day where we were invited to meet leaders of the Baptist Convention Church of Mozambique and other churches. We distributed about 2000 books on the following titles: Five Points of John Calvin, Reformed Worship, Penetrating Preaching, Pastors and Teachers, London Baptist Confession of Faith 1689 and Portuguese Bibles.

Recent letters of thanks

I shared the books with our leadership team and some friends and we have read all the books sent to us (with the exception of the workbook, commentary on Timothy and The Dictionary of Theological terms). We found the books very useful and they have been a source of blessing for my personal growth (I'm sure other leaders have the same testimony) and a rich teaching guide for me.

1. Through Foundations of the Christian Faith by Roger Weil - along with some other materials we have - we were able to design a manual for our new believers class tagged The Path

2. Living in God's Pleasure by Derek Prime ministered to me personally. It has helped me to focus on developing the fruits of the Spirit in my life and to put the fruit before the gifts of the Spirit.

3. I've been studying much about Ephesians 4:11 and been reading about what is called the 5-fold ministry, but I've never read any book that gives details about the pastoral and teaching ministries like Pastors and Teachers. The focus deviates from other perspective and the presentation is rich. I gained new perspectives on calling, personal study and preparation for ministry. Thanks for this book.

4. I must confess that all these books are not only rich, they are rare and the teachings are solid and timely. It was my first time to encounter Derek Prime but I've come to fall in love with his style of writing and I appreciate his presentation better.

Thanks once again for the package. We assure you that we will continue to give more people access to these wonderful materials as we look forward to receiving more from you in the future.

Abuja, Nigeria

Greetings from a sunny Kisumu. Thank you very much for the books that arrived safely from CBW. There were 6 boxes.

In July and August I have been doing more book ministry as there are many events that this can be done at. From the CBW books I received I gave a couple of volumes of the Preachers Study Papers on John’s Gospel at the following:

20 copies to the students at Ahero Evangelical School of Theology (an AIC Bible College). I was speaking at the chapel service.

15 copies to the pastors doing the ‘Explore’ course from George Whitfield College, South Africa that I teach.

Copies to AIC Pastors at conferences  at Milimani, Rai and Ruma (50 copies).

There are also 28 copies for the AIC pastors in the South Nyanza region when I am at one of their conferences.

I am also expecting to be at 5 other conferences in the next few weeks, so we are very grateful for the books CBW have sent. Every blessing,

Graham Jones, Kenya

News from Uganda

Rev Martin Odi has been using CBW resources in his work.

Recently I asked for prayer while I travelled to the cattle rustlers in the far northern part of Uganda. The Lord heard your prayer; I was able to travel safely and teach in three venues for 6-7 hours each day for nine days.

What is so exciting is to see these once-robbers and raiders turning to the Lord and desiring to serve him with more zeal and love from their hearts. We had planned to host 65 leaders in each of the three venues but the Lord gave us bonus: Namalu had 71, Bweramuge had 135, and Ik land had 170. All of them stayed to the end and desired to hear more and more of Biblical teaching.

In the Ik land it was very funny as naked people sat in the conference, and during lunch they called all villagers to come for lunch each day for three days. But we did not lack food. In the final day the local chief helped us organize people for lunch and everybody had good share. They do not have dinner; they only eat once in a day.

In this community of close to 13,000 people, only one person has attained a degree in one discipline since God brought them here 400 years ago. Literacy is very low. Marriage is the only thing they think of and child marriage is the order of the day. The four oldest women in my meeting were probably 35; the rest were below 28 and had many children. A lady of 22 had 6 children and I thought she was over 40. The youngest mother was 14.

One guy came forward to pray to receive Christ. He said “he was tired of drinking and being hopeless”.

So education must be the best gift - after Christ! - for these people. Of course poverty is indescribable and many other things including hygiene, etc, but all in all pray for change of thinking that will enhance their development. This is the only place where meeting in church is not about 'prosperity', but culture and security, because on their east are Turukana warriors and on the West are Karimojong raiders. Both raid and kill these small groups. Right now they are enjoying relative peace as they are protected by Ugandan army, so they can sleep.

I plan to return to teach in three more venues in the near future, God providing. I beg for your continued prayer support.
