Coventry 3D Meeting - Sat. 5 Oct 2019

Denis Pellerin - londonstereo.com

I hope you have all had a nice summer and taken plenty of 3D photos.
This Saturday is our first Coventry 3D Meeting of the new season - 2:30pm 5th October 2019.

We have a very special guest speaker; photo historian Denis Pellerin of the London Stereoscopic Company (LSC) will give a 3D talk "Collecting Stereos: Highlights from Dr. Brian May's collection".

There are as many ways of collecting photographs as there are collectors. Some collect only big names from the photographic world, others go for specific processes, and a lot more for particular and sometimes very specialised subject matters. Dr. Brian May's extensive collection would appeal to any of the above individuals as it is all inclusive and offers enough material for dozens of books and articles. Discover a few of those stereoscopic gems with photo historian Denis Pellerin, curator of Dr. May's collection.

(This is a similar talk to the one he presented at the International Stereoscopic Union (ISU) Congress in Lübeck recently.)

After the refreshment break the meeting will also include 3D projection of international award winning presentations, including the ISU's Digital Club Folio Shows - 3D images taken by our colleagues from all around the world, show casing their local 3D clubs.

Denis will be bringing a selection of their books and cards and viewers for sale.
There have been a couple of new releases since we last saw him :

GEORGE WASHINGTON WILSON Artist and Photographer (1823-93)

MISSION MOON 3-D, Reliving the Great Space Race

And he has some exciting news to share with us about what is to come and new developments for the future of London Stereoscopic Company.

We look forward to seeing you there.
Andrew Hurst

PS Special thank you to Moira Heath who has been busy cake baking all week ready for our refreshment.

Doors open at 2pm for a 2:30pm start, finishing by 5pm.
Entrance: £3.00 including refreshments. First time visitors free.
St Barbara's Church Hall, 24 Rochester Road, Earlsdon, Coventry, CV5 6AG

New Season Meeting Programme

Hopefully all members received an email a month or more ago with an attachment of the new season of meetings programme.

The society web site has full details and a download copy so that you can print your own paper copy.
Let us know if you have any problems doing so and we can send you a copy.

Digital Image Competition.
London Meeting - November 9th.

Digital image competition; please send 3 images to Mike Hillyard by 28th October and the audience will judge the winner.

The closing date for entries is 28th October not 28th September as stated erroneously in the programme. Apologies to all who have been confused by this error.

Entries are very welcome FROM MEMBERS, whether attending the meeting or not, but please don't submit images that have previously appeared in the Society's Annual Competition or The Third Dimension Society's Annual Exhibition.

The idea is that this is a "fun" competition and audience on the day will judge the winner.

File names and Image title should be in the format Name_Image title_1, Name_Image title_2, Name_Image title_3

PSA International 3D Competitions

A couple of 3D clubs in America are currently accepting entries for their own annual 3D competitions organised to PSA rules.
Anyone can enter, there is a small entry fee for each.

London 11th January 2020
Themed meeting: "Engineering"

The London Meeting on January 11th will be a full festival of 3D AV shows produced by members and organised once again by Mike Hillyard.

As usual, the topic has been chosen in the hope that it will not prove restrictive, rather that it will stimulate creativity in its interpretation. The theme for 2020 is "Engineering". Please feel free to interpret this as broadly or obscurely as you wish.

As in earlier years, the show length can be anything from very short up to around 15 minutes.

.WMV, .AVI, .MP4 files are all fine, but please avoid executable files.

Your AV shows are always hugely appreciated by both the London and Coventry audiences and they will now probably also be seen in Redcar and Bury. Some shows are also likely to be used in the Convention programme as time permits. I am very much aware of the amount of time and effort that goes into the making of these shows and am greatly impressed by the level of complexity and professionalism that some are now achieving.

Please let me know if you think you have or will have a show for the programme. Please send shows in by 20th December at the latest, a lot earlier if possible - if material is available earlier, please do send it!

Looking forward to hearing from you!
All the best,
Mike Hillyard
