February 2020 Newsletter

Thank you for being a part of VTAT!  We are excited to announce that we will now be sending out a newsletter that will include updates about VTAT, upcoming CE opportunities, pertinent legislative information concerning the veterinary field, articles and case studies from various VTAT members, and much, much more!

2020 Officers of VTAT
Executive Board nominations were collected in the fall of 2019 for the open 2020 positions – President Elect, Vice President, and Secretary.  Each position received only one nomination and after careful review by the Election Coordinator and 2019 Executive Board, each candidate was found to be very well qualified to hold their position on the 2020 Executive Board.  Having an unopposed slate of officers for nomination, voting was not required.  The Treasurer’s remaining position was appointed to Stephanie Wertman, LVT, VTS-EVN.

Please welcome your new officers for 2020!
  • President: Stevie Willett, LVT, VTS-EVN
  • President-Elect: Cortney Evins, LVT
  • Vice President: Jordan Berg, LVT
  • Secretary: Katie Smaus, LVT
  • Treasurer: Stephanie Wertman, LVT, VTS-EVN
  • Immediate Past President/Board Adviser: Ky Carter
We are all very excited to start a new year as your new board!

A BIG thank you to Kristi Ely, LVT, VTS-EVN for her role as our Immediate Past President for 2019! You have done so much for not only this organization, but also for this field.  We cannot thank you enough!

Meet your Executive Board!
We want to let you get to know your Executive Board! We will highlight a different board member in the following newsletters!  We are happy to introduce to you your Vice President, Jordan Berg, LVT!

"From a young age, I’ve always had a compassion for the animal kingdom and loved the unique partnership shared between humans and their animal companions. Consequently, veterinary medicine has been my dream job since I was a child.  After homeschooling for my entire grade school career, I entered Cedar Valley College Veterinary Technology program following my high school graduation. I graduated from the program in 2017 and began working there in the Veterinary Technology department as an Instructional Assistant part time. There I found I also have a passion for teaching and tutoring our students and helping them succeed. After many, many months of preparation, I passed my boards and became an LVT in June 2018. In August 2018, I started a full time job working as a technician in small animal general practice. It has given me the invaluable opportunity to develop my skills and expand and apply my knowledge in a clinical setting. My hope is to one day move into Surgical or Clinical Pathlogy specialty medicine and pursue my Masters of Veterinary Technology or DVM. Right now I’m just enjoying trying a little bit of everything I can get my hands on in the field. In my free time I enjoy reading, dancing, playing piano, crafting, and watching Netflix (sadly that has become a hobby)." - Jordan Berg, LVT
