FBT Board approves two new global grants

The Project Recruitment Committee is pleased to announce two new projects that have been approved by the FBT board. Integral Heart Foundation is a school in La Antigua, Guatemala, serving low income youth in an under-resourced area. FBT has approved a project for $8,400 to fund the cost of bringing medical teams to the school every month to provide healthcare to both the students at the school and their families. Given the prevalent health concerns in the area, including heart disease, diabetes, and malnutrition, this medical care is crucial to ensure family stability and future growth.

Additionally, the board approved a project to support an art enrichment program at Konnect Youth Consortium in Kericho, Kenya. This program seeks to provide programming for local youth that teaches life skills and socio-economic stability through positive recreational activities. Infused in these programs are messages of financial literacy and social empowerment. To support this youth programing, FBT will provide $7,500 for musical instruments, art supplies, and media equipment for use in the youth empowerment program held during the three-month hiatus from school. This project was brought to the project recruitment team by Naomi Rugutt, a graduate of YGC 2018. As Project Recruitment Committee member Hannah Mesouani said, “The arts should not be for only the privileged few, but rather for all.” The Project Recruitment Committee appreciated how Konnect Youth Consortium is finding a way to connect with youth while also teaching valuable life skills.

The Project Recruitment Committee will now turn its attention to the global projects recommended to them by the YGC class of 2019.
