October 2019 Newsletter
Hello Everyone, welcome to my newsletter and welcome to October!
We have an exciting month starting this weekend with a trip to Charleston, South Carolina to attend the 104th Annual Conference for the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Sonny and I are joining Dr.’s Elista Istre, www.BelleHeritage.com, and Moriah Istre-Hargrave, www.MoriahIstre.com as a part of their presentation of “Musical Migrations: Louisiana Creoles and the American South”. A part of their presentation includes a relationship between my Great Grandfather, Denús McGee, (The Dean of Cajun Music), and Amédé Ardoin, (The Father of Creole Music).
Sonny and I are presenting three of our songs, which we have on CD for purchase on the website. You can email me, vikkimcgee@yahoo.com, or I will have them at our shows, including the newest song “Mõn Ami”, meaning “My Friend”, written about the friendship of Denús and Amédé. We are honored and beyond excited to be a part of this journey. It is a dream come true as songwriters and an honor to be invited by two of the most brilliant and beautiful souls that we have ever encountered.
Be listening to KASU, 91.9 FM Radio this Friday for the Arkansas Roots Program between Noon and 1 O’clock for our interview with Marty Scarbrough about the conference and the new CD, titled Songs of War, Peace, Sacrifice, & Friendship. If you miss the show you will be able to catch it at KASU.org and The Arkansas Roots facebook page. KASU will also be posting a link on facebook to the segment.
