Meet the Staff - Maintenance Crew

Meet Reg Hiha (pictured on the left) and Dave Rae.

Together, Reg and Dave have over 40 years experience at the Town of East Fremantle - Dave commenced with the Town in 1988 and Reg in 2010.
Many of you will have seen Reg and Dave working around the Town in our parks and reserves, undertaking street cleaning, removing graffiti from Town buildings and signs, emptying bins, cleaning the public BBQ's and keeping the leaves at bay from car parks and pathways.  Essentially, these two valuable members of the Operations Team do a fantastic job in keeping the Town of East Fremantle looking the best it can!
When asked how they felt about the Town, Dave said "Live here, work here, love it!"  Reg said "Friendly people, when I'm in the Town on the weekend, people remember me and say Hi!"
We also asked them what they want for the Town of East Fremantle in the future - Dave said he would like the Town to remain independent; Reg hopes the Town stays small and friendly.
Keep up the good work Reg and Dave.

Parking Infringement Appeals Policy - Amended

Following a review of administrative and customer service processes, the Town of East Fremantle has reviewed and amended the Parking Infringement Appeals Policy.  The change takes into account the requirement to display a valid ticket, acknowledging that from time to time valid parking tickets may end up facing the wrong side up when displayed.  Previously 'failure to display a valid ticket' meant that even if a ticket had been purchased and was still within the designated time allowed, but was displayed upside down, an appeal would not be considered under the clause "failure to display a valid ticket".  With the amendment, an infringement will still be issued if the valid ticket is displayed upside down, however if it can be proven that the ticket was indeed 'valid', the infringement may be withdrawn.

Maggie Swooping Season - Take Care!

While out and about enjoying the glorious spring weather we’ve been looking forward to, be aware that it’s also the terrifying magpie swooping season.
Magpies breed from August to October and where there's one magpie, there's generally another, and another, and another who will vigorously defend their territory.
According to the WA Department of Parks and Wildlife, magpies, like dogs, seem to sense fear and may capitalise on it by pressing an attack.
This pre-emptive attack can be averted with a stick, a hat or an umbrella waved around to make the bird retreat but it will keep a keen eye on you until you leave its territory. It is rare for a magpie to actually strike an intruder on the head with its bill, however, DPAW recommends wearing sunglasses to conceal your face and eyes. If you are concerned about aggressive magpies in your area, contact the Wildcare Helpline on 9474 9055 or the DPAW office. Website Magpie Alert logs encounters with aggressive magpies across Australia, and allows members of the public to track where the angry birds may be frequenting.
