CONFIRMED TODAY - 25 Year Rule & New Import Criteria to start on 10 Dec 2019
Finally some GOOD NEWS.
Confirmed today - the new 25 Year Rule for car imports to Australia WILL START on 10 Dec 2019.
ALSO - Models that meet the new import criteria will be allowed from 10 Dec using the old scheme structure, including 'significantly different' variants of models that were sold here new, kei cars, and any hybrid / electric vehicle that was not sold here.
NOTE that a further Govt. update is indicated for mid-November, with more details on how they plan to proceed - including we presume information on how to make an application for a new model to be evaluated (and the cost).
Hundreds of new models won't suddenly be available from Dec 10 - there is a process of applications, fees, and processing time for each model. So this will take time, effort and cost with compliance for the most popular new models probably available in the first half of 2020 and more added as time goes on.
