Trump won Texas over Hillary Clinton, but lost Harris County big, claiming just 41.6 percent of the vote in Harris County — the worst any Republican presidential candidate has done in the county since Barry Goldwater faced President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.

Beto splits with other 2020 Democrats on guns

No other 2020 Democrat at the Giffords/March for Our Lives gun safety forum endorsed Beto O'Rourke's proposal to implement a mandatory buyback program for assault weapons. The fact no one else would be pressured to follow him shows how the rest of the field is being careful to distance themselves from what they view as a polarizing position and instead stick with pushing a voluntary buyback program as a way to appeal to the center.
