Hello From the New Operations Manager!
Sara K. Haile - Operations Manager: Maryland MENTOR
Happy 4th Quarter of 2019! My name is Sara K. Haile and I am the new Operations Manager of Maryland MENTOR. Serving as internal leader of the organization, I will be working closely with Sadiq Ali, Executive Director, improving operational management systems, processes, and best practices through project management and maintenance of internal databases. I am very excited to be a part of this amazing organization [cheers, we are officially now a 501(c)(3)!] Only two weeks in, and it is quite evident that Sadiq and the Maryland MENTOR team have an incredible work culture. The work done here is important and impactful. I look forward to continuing the movement of fueling the quality and quantity of mentoring relationships for Maryland’s young people and to close the mentoring gap.
For the past decade, I have worked extensively in the youth development sector in a capacity of roles. I began my professional career as an undergraduate student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, interning in the Juvenile Division of the Superior Court of California, Santa Cruz. Soon after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies, I enlisted as an AmeriCorps VISTA working in Richmond, CA high schools, implementing community-prevention programs that engaged youth using project-based learning to reduce youth access to illicit substances and alcohol. After completing my term, I started a role as a Youth Development Specialist in the Bay Area, tasked with supporting young people transitioning out of foster care. I then took my strengths-based approach to continue working with justice involved young people through the Kings County Supreme Court in New York City fighting to reduce the recidivism rate through an alternative to sentencing program. I moved to Charm City to work towards my master’s degree and experienced a great opportunity during my field practicum as the first cohort in the Social Worker in the Library program at the Enoch Pratt Pennsylvania Ave Branch, providing community members access to social services. Earning my Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland, my intentional goal was to go beyond the direct service work and advocate for marginalized populations through macro social work which includes program development, research and evaluation, and public policy advocacy.
As Operations Manager of Maryland MENTOR, I am excited and eager to not only bring my previous roles and expertise background to establish a greater organization, but in addition bring my passion for working with the underrepresented youth populations. I thank you for your continued support of Maryland MENTOR and look forward to meeting you soon! #themarathoncontinues

The Director of PeacePlayers Baltimore will have a deep understanding of Baltimore, outstanding management and fundraising skills and will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of PeacePlayers Baltimore and adhering to PeacePlayers 10 Unifying Principles. On October 3 and 4, 2019, over 350 of Maryland's nonprofit leaders will gather in Linthicum Heights, MD, to network, expand their skills, earn continuing education credits, and have FUN!
#MANOAC19 will gather nearly 500 people including nonprofit leaders representing every part of the nonprofit field, expert speakers and presenters, and businesses that serve the sector to share solutions in the human services and nonprofit management fields, capitalize on our individual and collective strengths, and look ahead towards emerging issues—all while adapting and working with change. This year’s theme, Inspire, Unite, Act! encourages us to use our collective power to stay motivated while finding cutting-edge solutions to scale up our impact.
AT&T has been a pioneer in the collective impact movement through its Aspire Program. Focusing on both philanthropic support and the time and talent of their employees, Aspire aims to equip young people with the skills they need to reach their highest potential and become leaders in today’s digital, global economy.
The challenge of high school graduation and college and career readiness is real: youths of color and youths from low-income households trail far behind their middle- and upper- income peers. AT&T recognized this national crisis and has supported research and movement building to raise the national graduation rate. In addition, they built the Aspire Mentoring Academy (AMA).
The AMA is unique in that it provides a collective space for its nonprofit partners to meet, communicate, share strategies and challenges, and look for ways to collaborate with one another. MENTOR and AT&T’s whitepaper, written in partnership with Civic Enterprises, details how companies can more deeply engage their employees by setting up mentoring programs and how they can benefit from the collective impact nonprofits contribute to.
