We will also be introducing our Primary Care Networks approach, discovering the importance of them and hearing more about how the Pharmacy Quality Scheme indicator for PCN engagement will work.

Events have been scheduled in the four Local Authority areas covered by CPCW.  We will be running a supportive exercise across PCN groups on the night so if you can, please attend your local one but if you are unable to attend that one please do book onto an alternative as it will still be relevant.

PHARMACY CONTRACTS AND MANAGEMENT

PHARMACY QUALITY SCHEME (PQS) - LIVE NOW

The Pharmacy Quality Scheme audit for patients with diabetes started from 1 October. Make sure you are conducting the audit as part of the Prevention Domain.

PSNC has published this briefing 043/19: Pharmacy Quality Scheme – Foot and eye screening (retinopathy) checks for patients with diabetes to assist you to get ready to meet the quality criterion.  The briefing explains how to meet the criterion as well as the following template resources:

  • Small flyers – For pharmacy teams to consider using for patients with diabetes who are calling back to collect their prescriptions;
  • Briefing document for GP practices– Can be used by contractors to talk local GP practices through the new quality criterion;
  • Letter to GP practices– Can be used in addition to the above GP Briefing document;
  • Data collection form– Contractors will be required to enter information onto the Manage Your Service (MYS) application when they make a declaration for their PQS payment; contractors can choose to use this form to help them gather the required information; and
  • Suggested process – For pharmacy teams to consider following or adapting to incorporate this quality criterion into their daily practice.

These resources are also available at: psnc.org.uk/pqsdiabetes

PHARMACY QUALITY SCHEME (PQS)

From 1 October you can update or validate your NHS website profile in order to meet the NHS website gateway criterion and edit or confirm your Directory of Services (DoS) profile to meet the DoS quality criterion of the Digital enablers domain of the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS).

You  are required to complete both of the above by 11:59pm on 30 November 2019  to meet the NHS website gateway criterion and the DoS quality criterion.

Please note, the period for updating both the NHS website profiles and the DoS quality criterion is ahead of the declaration period, which is different to previous schemes.

If you miss this deadline, you will not meet the gateway criteria (as well as not meeting one of the quality criteria of the Digital enablers domain) and will therefore NOT be entitled to claim a PQS payment in February 2020.

Find out more on the PSNC website.

PSNC resources
PSNC has published various resources for contractors to assist them with meeting the gateway and quality criteria of PQS. Additional PSNC resources are currently being finalised and will be published soon; PSNC will alert you when these are available through their normal communication channels.
Visit the PQS page on the PSNC website to find out more about the resources currently available
GP Communications

Our NHS Area team are shortly to send out some information to GP practices about the new Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) as the national cascade does not seem to have managed to hit everyone. If you get any queries from GPs about the information you may send to them or discuss with them as part of the new CPCF, please make them aware of the following resources:

There is a communication being drafted that will be sent by the Cheshire & Merseyside Medical team to highlight the following parts of our contract which complement the General Practice Quality Outcome Framework (QOF) domain:
  • Lithium audit (and the alternative audits if a pharmacy has no patients on lithium)
  • Valproate safety audit on pregnancy prevention measures
  • NSAID audit
  • Diabetes checks
  • Asthma reviews and referrals
PSNC have also developed further resources specifically for GPs the links to which you may want to provide to local colleagues as useful reference information:
