CDI Student of the Month

Congratulations for September's Student of the Month, Erick Peña!

Erick is a very involved student of the CDI. Not only does he come to the events of his own club, but he is often seen in the other club's events as well. He helps with the set up and cleaning, participates actively in the event, and makes everyone feel welcome. Through his dedication and hard work, he shows that he truly cares for the CDI and its students.

Erick is a Junior Exercise Science major here at SUU. Currently, he serves as the Vice President of the Latinx Student Alliance.

Hispanic Heritage Month
October is Hispanic Heritage month! Come support the Latinx Student Alliance in celebrating their culture at the following events this week:
  • Carnaval Night on Thursday, October 3 from 6 to 8 PM. Carnaval is a colorful event usually celebrated before the Catholic tradition of Lent, usually involving food, games, and shows. Join us in the CDI for a chance to learn and participate in this event, where we'll be decorating the masks usually seen in this event.
  • Calle Night on Friday, October 4 from 6 to 10 PM. Put on your street shoes and comfortable clothes, and come to Calle Night to get moving! We will be meeting in Parking Lot 14 for a night of soccer.

Trunk or Treat
There will be Trunk or Treat event held by the SUU Student Programming Board this Friday, October 4 from 7 to 9 PM. It will be for both children and college students, so don't be afraid to dress up and get some candy in the street between the Institute and the SUU PE Building.
Miss Native American SUU Applications are open!
The Native American Student Association of Southern Utah University will be holding its annual Miss Native American SUU (NASUU) Scholarship Pageant Friday, November 22, 2019.The pageant will be a stepping stone to encourage young women to strive for self improvement, leadership, and the opportunity to represent Southern Utah University as an official ambassador on behalf of Native American students. A scholarship will be awarded to the newly crowned Miss Native American SUU for the 2019-2020 academic school year. Applications will close on Friday, October 25. OUR MISSION
The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) exists to validate the multiple identities present on our campus, while integrating the voices and experiences of marginalized people. We provide emotional, social, and financial support to students from historically underrepresented communities (e.g. students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation college students, etc.)

The CDI collaborates with campus partners to foster a learning environment that respects multiple perspectives and differences through multicultural clubs, workshops, trainings and cultural programming. The CDI invites members of the campus community to join in conversation about how to cultivate an inclusive, safe, and welcoming campus culture.
