Wyndham on fire both at home and abroad
LAS VEGAS — Wyndham Hotel Group continued to expand steadily in established markets including Canada and the U.S., but posted exponential figures for its pipeline in newer markets, including 500 hotels in China over the next three years. Former Canadian PM Brian Mulroney and his celebrity son Ben shared the spotlight in the opening keynote. And Canadian sessions for Days Inns and Superior Lodging were engaging and well-attended. 
 
*Superior Lodging dominates mid-scale market
LAS VEGAS — Marc Staniloff , president and CEO of Superior Lodging Corp., which owns the franchise rights to Super 8 and Travelodge in Canada, and partners with MasterBUILT for Microtel, said his company has grown to 257 hotels in Canada, including 22 last year.

LAS VEGAS — Trevor Hagel of Travelodge Canada told delegates at the Wyndham conference that OTAs are our friends and hotels need to work with them. He also said that the brand is striving to have all properties Green Key certified.

LAS VEGAS — Hoteliers should work on employee engagement, guest satisfaction and capital improvements. Enhancing the setting makes breakfast buffets "pop." And walking with Irwin Prince early in the morning equals a $5K donation to Shoe Bank Canada.
 
Rising insurance costs in a hardening market
Hoteliers across Canada are facing rising insurance costs, with some rates increasing to three times as high as they were last year. Why is this happening? Hotel rates in Canadian cities expected to rise
According to the American Express Global Business Travel's annual Hotel Monitor report, hotel rate rises are expected in the majority of Canada’s largest cities in 2020 –  including Ottawa (2 per cent), Vancouver (3 per cent), Montreal (4 per cent) and Toronto (4 per cent), providing a positive outlook for the industry the foreseeable future.
