You are invited to join us as we celebrate three years of Vibrant • Spiritual • Life since our founding in 2016. Be with us Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5:00 p.m. for the shindig. St. Philip's Church. 256 E. Main St., Brevard is the place to be for beverages, hors d'oeuvres, and a delicious buffet dinner, catered by the Kitchen Sisters. The evening will include brief presentations and conclude at 7:30.

Join us for the pilgrimage of a lifetime as we travel to Israel-Palestine — the "Holy Land" March 5-17, 2020
All interested persons are invited to attend an information session on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at Elk Haven Wellness Center, 100 Elks Club Road, off Park Avenue in Brevard. There will be a brief presentation about the pilgrimage, followed by questions and answers. Pilgrimage Co-Directors Rob Field and Jane Hubbard, who led a similar pilgrimage in 2018, will be the presenters. The session will adjourn at 6:30 p.m.

'Falling Upward' Retreat Nov. 11-14

If you appreciate the wisdom of Fr. Richard Rohr, we have a retreat for you — 'Falling Upward' Nov. 11-14 at beautiful Lake Logan Center near Waynesville, N.C.
CSW Director Rob Field will lead the retreat. "My goal is to help participants dig deeply into the wisdom of Fr. Rohr's life-changing book. Earlier this year, I led a weekend version of the retreat for a private group, and the response was stunningly positive." Participants found Rohr's distinction between spirituality for the first and second halves of life extremely helpful. Several said they wished they had a longer period of time to discuss how to apply the book's insights to their own lives.
The retreat will begin late afternoon on Monday, Nov. 11th and conclude with lunch on Thursday the 14th. In addition to presentations, group discussions and experiential practices, there will be times for silence, contemplative worship, and recreation. CSW Program Director Tom Lewis will lead Tuesday's session, using narrative journaling as a means of exploring the two halves of life.

All accommodations are single occupancy with a private bathroom, unless participants choose to share a bedroom and bathroom at a reduced rate. (Go to Lake Logan's web site to learn more about the facility.) Three delicious, healthy meals a day are included, as are educational materials for the retreat. A limited number of spaces remain available for this event. Individuals may register at Center for Spiritual Wisdom's web site. Total cost is $425 per person ($375 for double occupancy). Registration closes Oct. 15.

Holy Chaos? Looking for Meaning In Turbulent Times
Our next "Second Sundays" gathering — Oct. 13 at 5:00 p.m.
CSW Director Rob Field will be the presenter for the next Second Sundays gathering at Elk Haven Wellness Center — Sunday, Oct. 13 at 5:00 p.m. His topic will be "Holy Chaos? Looking for Meaning In Turbulent Times."
Many people today are asking, "Why is our society so contentious right now? Why does it feel like things are falling apart? Can anything good come from all the chaos?" Drawing on wise souls past and present, including Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and Ken Wilber, Field will offer his personal response to these questions. He says, "More than anything, I want to spark the kind of conversation I'd enjoy being part of. That's my favorite part of Second Sundays: the give and take."
Elk Haven's doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for informal conversation and light refreshments. Rob's presentation will begin at 5:30, with questions and conversation following at 6:00 p.m. The gathering will end at 6:30.
Donations will be accepted at the door, and gifts of $10 or more will be acknowledged with a glass of Green Heart organic juice or a Reason to Bake gluten-free cookie. All donations are welcome, and help defray the costs associated with the Second Sundays monthly series.

Art & Spirit: Making the Connections

Center for Spiritual Wisdom and ArtLab are collaborating to offer a day-long event Saturday, Oct. 12 to explore the intersection of art and spirituality.
Many spiritual persons use art and art-making to deepen and enrich their spiritual practice, and artists often draw from their spiritual identities to broaden and diversify their creative expression and generativity. How do spirituality and art intersect for you? What practices do you use, or wish you understood better, to pierce the veil between these two ways of being and understanding the world? There are many, many spiritual practices that bring meaning, and equally numerous ways of participating in the arts. Individually or in community, we are hoping to explore some of the avenues open to all of us as we seek to open our experiences to more wonder, joy, and meaning.
We are hoping this meeting will be the first in a series for those who want an opportunity to slow down, cultivate mindfulness, and reconnect, with others, to the beauty of the world around us. Are you interested in creativity, sharing, building community, and self-discovery? If so, we invite you to join us for an exploration of Art & Spirit.
This one day retreat will be led by Nancy E. Richards, an artist with experience facilitating group explorations as a chaplain, educator, counselor, and friend. We will examine our own definitions of Spirit, both formal and informal, and how art, whether created by ourselves or others, can not only enrich us intellectually, but also deepen the connection to Spirit in our lives.
No previous art experience is necessary . . . just an open mind, and a willingness to explore and create. All supplies will be provided, and support in using the materials will be offered. Likewise, no particular experience of spirituality is required. Just come as you are, with questions and your own experience. We will spend some time in contemplation, some in sharing, and some in making a bit of art.
Please bring your own lunch and dress comfortably. Weather permitting, we will try to have a little time outside.
