Have Your Say on Municipal Approaches to Reduce Single-Use and Takeaway Items
The City of Toronto is undertaking consultation to help develop a strategy to reduce single-use and takeaway items. This consultation will seek feedback on the proposed approaches, items that will be targeted, and timelines to reduce specific single-use and takeaway items in Toronto. A single-use or takeaway item is any product designed for a single use, after which it is disposed of in the garbage, Blue Bin (recycling) or Green Bin (organics). Typically, these products are not designed for durability or reuse.

Stand Up for Transit Riders' Safety
As many of you may know, in mid-September a person exiting the 511 Bathurst streetcar was hit by the driver of a dump truck who failed to stop behind the streetcar’s open doors.  Vehicles continually fail to stop for open streetcar doors, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, and little is being done to enforce the law.

University-Rosedale MPP Jessica Bell, NDP critic for transit issues, is joining local stakeholders to appeal to the Ontario government to implement enforcement measures using cameras on streetcars.  If you are interested in supporting these measures, you can read more about them and sign the letter she and others have drafted here.
