San Mateo County Mosquito & Vector Control District Honored for Financial Transparency

Earlier this month, San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association after submitting its Fiscal Year 2017/2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (available at https://www.smcmvcd.org/2018cafr) for review. The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment. There are more than 37,000 special districts in the United States, but only 108 have been awarded the Certificate of Achievement. In California, only 49 special districts have achieved this honor. San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District is the second vector control district in the US to be awarded the Certificate of Achievement. The certificate program encourages participating governments to provide information that is accessible and understandable to the public.  It is awarded to agencies that have fully implemented the updated standards of the Government Accounting Standards Board and have received a clean financial audit.

“This was the result of hard work by the entire finance and management staff, led by our Finance Director Richard Arrow.  I am very proud of our entire staff”, said Dr. Chindi Peavey, District Manager at San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District.

San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District was previously recognized as a District of Distinction by the California Special Districts Leadership Foundation.
