Dear Friends,

It has been a while since you last heard from me, but I miss you most of all when autumn leaves start to fall...  First of all, sincere thanks for those who came to my CD release on June 1st! It was a total blast and a memorable night to see so many people I love in one room. This event could not have been made possible without the support over a dozen volunteers, the generosity of my lyricist David Keyes and wonderful musical direction from our producer Ulysses Owens Jr. Here is the video of our grand finale “Love Creates Love” as we want the audience felt recharged by love while leaving the concert hall.

Right after the concert, I need to immediately put my composer hat back on to finish a string orchestra piece Tango Rough, which was selected among many applicants to receive a reading at the EAMA Summer Music Institute in Paris. Under the guidance of caring master teachers at EAMA, I received intense training on counterpoint, keyboard harmony, and music analysis following Nadia Boulanger’s pedagogical legacy. While still in the process of establishing my own voice as a composer, it is essential for me to re-examine my understanding of contrapuntal and harmony principles. Therefore, my latest work for Piano, Violin, and Cello which will be premiered on October 20th, was composed upon my return to New York, reflecting my new explorations of these musical elements and my amazing time in beautiful Paris among good company of composers.  

Inspired by Nadia’s impact on the composition world, me along other two female composer colleagues decided to form a nonprofit organization called              Pitches Brew. The mission is to encourage and raise up the next generation of female-identifying composers, who have historically been excluded and underrepresented in the classical and jazz canon. Our inaugural concert will take place on my birthday, Sunday October 20th, 8pm at National Opera Center Scorca Hall.
