Junior Cert Results
As thousands of students receive their Junior Cert results today, Limerick Youth Service would like to congratulate you all.
The Junior Cert is a challenging three year programme and you should be very proud of your achievements that are a culmination of three years hard work and study. Well done all!
Mindfulness for LYS Volunteers
Volunteers with Limerick Youth Service will take part in a mindfulness and basic first aid workshops at
Rathkeale Youth Space this Saturday, October 5
th.
The mindfulness workshop will run from 10am-12pm and will be facilitated by Siobhan O’Brien of LYS’ Youth Mental Health team.
A basic first aid course for volunteers with LYS’ youth clubs will run from 12-4pm and will be delivered by Lisa Boland.

Europe: It’ Time To Move
This October Eurodesk, the European Youth Information Network, is running its
Time to Move Campaign which will inform young people about the opportunities to work, study, train and volunteer in Europe.
There are many opportunities in Europe for young people especially those with fewer opportunities such as unemployed young adults and early school leavers.
Working, studying, training or volunteering in Europe can be especially beneficial to young people struggling to find their place in society.
As part of the campaign Limerick Youth Service’s Youth Information team is delivering a number of Time To Move workshops which will include a special
Eurodesk card game that will challenge participants knowledge of Europe.

Halloween Fair in Garryowen
Facepainting, music, fun and plenty of old fashion games await young people & families at a Halloween Fair in Garryowen Green, on Wednesday, October 30
th (2-4pm).
Organised by the Garryowen Youth Together Project, the Halloween Fair promises to be great fun and with plenty of suprises in awaiting all!

Limerick Mental Health Week 2019
A family fun day, ‘Shine a Light on the River’ and wellbeing workshops are some of the many events that will take place as part of this year’s
Limerick Mental Health Week which will be formally launched at the Hunt Museum on Friday, October 4
th (6:30-7:30pm).
Among the many highlights of the week are a Family Fun Day on Saturday, October 5
th at Bedford Row with youth, community and mental wellbeing groups on site to speak about their role in supporting mental health.
One of the most poignant moments of the week will be the ‘Shine a Light in the River’ event which takes place on World Mental Health Day, Thursday, October 10
th.
The event will see specially illuminated boats make their along the River Shannon at 6pm sailing under the Three Bridges (Thomond, Sarsfield and Shannon). Members of the public are invited to ‘Shine a Light on the River’ by lighting up the river using phones or torches.

Be Well Team: Youth Mental Health Service
Be Well, is a youth mental health service that provides counselling to young people and supports youth groups in the promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing.
The
Be Well team provides guidance to parents, volunteers and those who work with young people on how to support a young person who is going through a tough time.
The team consists of two psychotherapists/councillors and a youth mental health worker with a Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) offering their support and input.

Losing a loved one, low self-esteem, alcohol misuse, peer pressure, challenges at school, employment or relationships, are just some of the many issues that the Be Well Team can help you with.
Support is provided as needed, either with a counsellor or youth mental health worker or via ‘follow up’ with some of LYS youth groups/projects.
Raising awareness of mental wellbeing is also a key feature with the LYS team active in the Green Ribbon Campaign and Limerick Mental Health Awareness Week.

LYS Youth Information Service
Barnardos
Barnardos works with vulnerable children and families and advocates for the rights of children in Ireland.
Barnardos supports families in dealing with issues such as bereavement, adoption, legal matters and family welfare in addition to a many other areas of support.
The charity was established in the late 19
th century by Irishman Thomas Barnardo who, on arrival in London, was appalled with the conditions in which children found themselves. Many were homeless and lost limbs from working in industrial factories.
By the time of his death in 1905, Thomas Barnardo had established a large network of homes for vulnerable children across London and the neighbouring counties.
It was in 1962 the Barnardos started to work in Ireland and, in the 47 years since has supported thousands of families and children across Ireland.
