City of Charleston October 4 Hurricane Dorian Debris Update
 
Since collection began, city crews and contractors have picked up more than 170,000 cubic yards of debris citywide. Today, 41 crews continue moving throughout the city picking up curbside debris.
 
Contractor crews will begin the final stage of debris pickup on Monday, at which time residents are asked to have all of their debris properly sorted and placed at the curb for collection.
 
Also beginning next week, while the contractors focus on the remaining debris collection, city crews will resume their normal bulk trash collection schedule (household appliances, bedding and furniture, etc.). Normal household garbage collection will continue.
 
Citizens are reminded that curbside leaves must be bagged in paper lawn and refuse bags for collection. No other materials should be included in these bags.
 
To comply with post-disaster FEMA requirements, and to allow crews to continue to move throughout neighborhoods as quickly as possible, debris must be clearly separated from garbage and other materials and placed away from mailboxes and low hanging wires or limbs.
 
Homeowners are reminded that any debris and construction materials resulting from home repairs covered by insurance should be removed and disposed of by the private contractor and not put out for municipal pick up.
