This morning
the beautiful white heron
was floating along above the water

and then into the sky of this
the one world
we all belong to

where everything
sooner or later
is a part of everything else

which thought made me feel
for a little while
quite beautiful myself.
–  Mary Oliver, 'Poem Of The One World'

Working Together to Create Community

There is something inspiring about community members coming together to take action and build connection with one another. We see this happen at our installation workshops as individuals seek to address the needs of their communities for local food, healthy soil and conserving our precious resources. People learn together, work together and eat lunch gathered together, and often leave with a feeling of having been a part of something that reaches beyond themselves. Nearly 20 people came out Oct. 5 to lay the foundation for Rio Vista's first demonstration food forest. They came from all over the region to support neighbors in Rio Vista and gather ideas to take back to their own communities. This weekend will be the last workshop creating that garden. We hope you'll join us for that and other events the rest of this month.
