AWSNA INVITATION
Speak with AWSNA Visiting Team
As mentioned in last week’s Current, from October 20 - 23, we will be welcoming an 8-person team of teachers and administrators from different Waldorf schools across North America who have volunteered to visit the VWS to provide objective insight into our school. In order to prepare their report, they will visit classes, speak with faculty, staff, select parents and alumni, as well as review our school’s policies and practices.
A traditional part of the AWSNA team visit is to set aside an hour when any interested community member may engage in a short individual conversation with a Team Member. This is an open invitation from the Visiting Team for any individual who would like to communicate something to the Team to schedule a 15-minute one-on-one meeting.
The Visiting Team will be available for these one-on-ones on Tuesday, October 22 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm in the Marjorie Thatcher Room (upstairs in the Early Childhood building). To ensure that no-one misses out on their chance for a conversation, we ask that you please select a time to attend here: signup.com. If you would like to remain anonymous, simply enter any initials in the mandatory name field rather than your name when signing up.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the Accreditation Steering Committee at asc@vws.ca.

Grade 3 students, along with several volunteers and Class Teacher Mrs. Johnston, have worked together to build a tiny library for our school! Thank you to all the parents who helped with this project.
The project created a hands-on learning experience for children to practice sanding, painting, staining, cutting, measuring, hammering, levelling, shovelling, stirring, and more!
This beautiful new lending library now stands outside our school thanks to the students' hard work and some incredible parent volunteers. Book donations are warmly welcomed!

Grade 8 has been learning about Platonic solids - cube, tetrahedron, octahedron, icosahedron and dodecahedron. Plato believed that these 5 geometic shapes were the building blocks of everything in the universe! The Platonic solids provide a rich foundation for investigating 3-dimensional geometry and is often a highlight of the Grade 8 Waldorf math curriculum. Beautiful work by all!

In Grade 9 Science, Dr. Wendy Young challenged the students to build a model of DNA using limited resources based upon structural characteristics determined by scientists.
Joined by the senior class from Seattle Waldorf School, our Grade 12 students, with Dr. Wendy Young and Sarah Vondruska, spent a week on San Juan Island in an immersive study of zoology.
Photos include Wildlife Presentation from Shona Aitken from Wolf Hallow Wildlife, as they were looking at bird’s wings, sculls and feet (all perished from natural causes); the University of Washington Marine Labs examining the marine life; and a demonstration with Sue Kellogg from Freehorse Farm on Natural Horsemanship.
All in all, an incredible opportunity for our students and faculty.

"Give us thankful hearts... in this the season of Thy Thanksgiving. May we be thankful for health and strength, for sun and rain and peace. Let us seize the day and the opportunity and strive for that greatness of spirit that measures life not by its disappointments but by its possibilities, and let us ever remember that true gratitude... passes the gift joyfully on..." ~W.E.B. Du Bois
Many blessings & Happy Thanksgiving
