Ballard Multimodal Corridor

10/04/19 – Ballard Multimodal Corridor Construction Update

This week, crews completed paving the southwest corner of the 24th Ave NW and NW Market St intersection. Crews are working to complete the sidewalk. On the south side of NW Market St, crews continued paving and conduit work. Work to remove poles, install foundations, and prepare for paving on NW 54th St is continuing.

On Monday, September 30, paving work at the intersection of 26th Ave NW and NW Market St began, requiring a temporary closure on the south side of NW Market St. Access is restricted for vehicles traveling south from NW Market St and north from 26th Ave NW. We expect access to reopen by the end of day today, Friday October 4.

On Monday, October 7, traffic at 28th Ave NW and NW Market St will be redirected to one-way northbound as crews begin work on the west side of the intersection. Vehicles wishing to turn south onto 28th Ave NW will be detoured to turn south onto 26th Ave NW, and turn onto 28th Ave NW from NW 54th St.

Changes in traffic flow are indicated in the graphics below. Please take care when traveling through the work zone as lanes may shift.

Upcoming work

Beginning as early as Monday, October 7, crews will begin work at the intersection of 28th Ave NW and NW Market St. This work will be completed in quarters, beginning with the southwest half of the intersection. Work will include roadway paving and conduit installation. We expect this work to last approximately two weeks. We will coordinate driveway closures individually with businesses.

Crews will continue work on the south side of NW Market St. Paving preparations will continue over the next few weeks, and several roadway pours are scheduled for next week and the following week. Business access will remain open. We will coordinate driveway closures with business owners in advance of this work.

On NW 54th St, several concrete pours are scheduled for next week. Work over the next two weeks will include sidewalk cutting, grading and concrete pours.

Upcoming work will require crews to work on sections of the sidewalk and there will be an increase in pedestrian impacts as result. Please follow pedestrian detour signage placed along the project corridor.

As work continues along the project corridor and limits space for cyclists on the road, please remember to share the sidewalk and be aware of your surroundings.

  • Typical work hours from 7 AM to 10 PM, Monday through Saturday
  • Crews may work some nights and weekends to minimize impacts to traffic during weekday commute times
  • On-street parking and lane restrictions near work locations
  • Temporary sidewalk and crosswalk closures with signed detours
  • Noise, dust, concrete odors, and vibration
  • Access to businesses and residences will remain open, driveway restrictions will apply
  • Work is weather dependent, so timing of work may change if needed
