Professional Practice GAP - Texas Health Steps is the state’s largest and most comprehensive medical and dental early, periodic, screening, diagnosis, and treatment (epsdt) program. The Texas Medicaid Program requires a large and well-informed base of primary care providers. Texas Health Steps presents requirements for Medicaid provider’s patient-care and referral process that must be cost effective. Medicaid Managed Care referral and prior authorization is a factor for provider compensation. Conferences are needed to ensure that eligible health-care professionals understand the state’s needs, requirements, and referral process. Research identifies the value of the medical home concept and referral process in the pediatric primary care system. One of the conference’s goals is to collaborate with healthcare specialists to increase access to healthcare and the benefits of the local referral process for the Texas Medicaid Program. Providing best practice guidelines to assist healthcare providers in connecting the referral.
