If you follow me on Facebook, have joined us for a Mission Trip, or are part of our Prayer Team you know that I have walked the red light district with Alabaster Jar's Street Outreach Team on several occasions.

While their ministry is not part of my focus the Lord calls me to pray for the woman on the street and the women of Alabaster Jar often.

Below is an impactful story from my colleague, Emily, that I asked permission to share.  Due to the photos and sensitive nature please do not forward nor share without my permission.  Thank you.

A Rescue Story ...

It was a freezing winter night.

Armed with hot coffee and tea, Alabaster Jar's "Street Outreach Team" headed out. Even on a night like this, women were lined up in the street, waiting for clients.  I was cold after just a few minutes. These women had been out for hours.

That was the night I met Anna*.

The street where she stood is closely controlled by pimps, and the women there do not often speak long with us. But this girl was different.

Anna was about my age, spoke excellent German, and seemed to trust us instantly.  She told us how she had come from her home country to earn money for a family member with cancer. She would stand on the street for 12 hours at a time until she made enough money to pay for the next cancer treatment. Her family thought she was working as a waitress.

“Be careful,” we told her, “It is dangerous work.”

“Believe me, I know,” she replied. She told us how one of her clients had trapped her in his car and cut her with razors.

"I hate the work," she said. "I’ve hated it since the first day.”

A few weeks passed. One night during outreach, I felt strongly that I should give Anna, The Book of Love

This small beautiful book was written (by an organization called Hope Dies Last) specifically for women in prostitution. It includes excerpts from the Book of John and describes the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. It also tells stories about women who have left prostitution and found freedom. It explains concepts of love, justice, forgiveness, grace, shame, and freedom. It encourages women to get out of situations where they are being hurt or their rights are being violated.

We often give these books out (in the women's own mother tongue), but never know for sure if the women actually read them. When I gave the book to Anna, I prayed that she would.

The next day, Anna came into our Café / drop-in center. We were surprised to see her, as the women from her street normally do not come in, because they are closely watched by their pimps.

“Someone stole my book last night!" she said. "Can I have another one?”

We very happily gave her a new copy. (Joke's on you, Satan.)  A week later, when we met on the street, I asked if she had gotten a chance to read it.

“Yes, almost twice now,” she responded.

Wow.  It felt so good to know that she’d not only read the whole book through, but that it had meant enough to her to read it again. It felt like we were making progress with her.

But after a few weeks, Anna disappeared. Another girl had taken her spot on the street.

This is not abnormal for many women, especially those that are closely controlled by pimps. After a certain period of time, they are moved to a new city or country. That way they don’t have time to form meaningful connections with anyone.

All I could do was pray that Anna was okay and wonder if I’d see her again.

Flash forward to ONE WEEK AGO.

We met a woman during Street Outreach and had a great conversation with her. In the middle of talking, an image of Anna came into my mind and I realized this woman was standing exactly where Anna used to stand.

As we were saying goodbye, I asked,

“Hey, there was a girl earlier this year who used to stand right here, named Anna? Do you know what happened to her?”

The woman smiled. “Yes. She went home. She’s done with this work. She’s never coming back.”

I’ll never forget the moment I heard those words.

Guys, I really believe God spoke to her through that little book, and showed her that he loved her and wanted to rescue her.
And guess what?! HE DID.
Emily and Carolina, who are  on Alabaster Jar's "Street Outreach" Team!

Please Pray:

1.) Please rejoice with me for one girl WHO IS NOW FREE.
2.)Pray for her and her family, that God would bring healing and provision.  And that she is accepted by them if they discover her secret.
3.) And please pray for the thousands of girls in Berlin just like Anna, who feel alone and trapped in prostitution. Pray that they would be inspired by Anna's story, and that they would realize just how LOVED and VALUABLE they are.
Has this story inspired you to do more than pray?  Then please contact me on how you can come serve with our family and team over a summer, for two years, or long term.  Email me here for more information.
