A scary line-up of free events will take place throughout Greenock as part of the annual Galoshans Festival.

The packed festival programme includes a contemporary art exhibition, three spellbinding productions at the Beacon Arts Centre, audiovisual and sculptural installations, street performances, live music, theatre, film and workshops activities for all across Inverclyde's public spaces and venues.

The centrepiece of the festival, which will celebrate the bicentenary of local son and world-renowned engineer James Watt, is the Galoshans parade and street party on Sunday October 27 at 5.30pm.

Greenock based arts charity RIG Arts is leading on the delivery of Galoshans Festival, in collaboration with a consortium of partners who have secured funding from the National Lottery through Creative Scotland, The National Lottery Heritage Fund and EventScotland.

Free Chance To Try An Electric Bike

Active travel project, The Bothy is offering people free electric bike trials.

They will take place in hourly slots between 9:30 and 2:30 on Sunday (20 October) or any Sunday in November (except 17th) and on Wednesday 23 October and all Wednesdays in November.

The Bothy is based at Gourock Station.

A mountain e-bike (suitable for 5ft 3in and taller) and a step-through e-bike are available.

Documentary Makers Keen To Hear From Former IBM Greenock Staff

A production company which is making a documentary for the BBC about Silicon Glen.

Glasgow-based TVI Vision has made similar documentaries for the BBC, including The Singer Story: Made in Clydebank and The Town That Thread Built, which told the story of J & P Coats in Paisley.

Assistant producer Vicki Watson said: "We’d love to speak with people who worked at IBM's Spango Valley site in Greenock.

"We’re keen to chat to those from a range of jobs roles who spent time at Spango Valley over the years. We’d like to hear about workers’ experiences at work and at play."
