Summertime....

It's summer time and after this spring - not sure the living is easy but we are willing to give it a try! Normally I'd post about the kids getting out of school and prepping for summer fun. Since the kids have all been home for what seems like forever, I thought I'd focus more on regrouping and getting our heads above water with clutter that may have piled up while everyone is on top of each other.

Follow along with us to get some great summer organizing tips - and give us a shout if you need our help!

- Liz

5 easy summer organizing projects:

  • Kids Clothes: donate or store for siblings outgrown items, toss or repurpose torn or stained items
  • Pantry: summertime is a great time to organize the pantry! Set up a grab & go snack area along with easy summer meal prep zones
  • Garden Tools: as you are using them to spruce up the yard or plant a garden, take note of broken or worn out items to replace and edit out those that don't function well or don't get used
  • Your Car: no time like summer to clean out your car. It may be hot but it'll be fun to play in the hose while you wash. Set up totes in your trunk or hatch for grocery bags, emergency kit, kid gear, or whatever you need to have on hand.
  • Schoolwork: school may be over so don't get stuck having to deal with all of the stuff from last year when the new year starts. Set up a file system or storage bin for things you want to keep and toss the rest.
Summer is an awesome time to revamp your playroom! We took this playroom from piles to smiles with these Crate & Kids stacking cubbies, white plastic bins from Container Store, great zones for all the activities, a project table and lots of labels!

Pro tips before bringing in the bins and cubbies:
  • group like with like
  • toss the damaged, worn, stained
  • tuck away the precious but outgrown items in a memory bin
  • edit out anything that doesn't get played with (and bin up things for younger siblings to grow in to)
  • create your zones so you can see your volume
THEN contain & label!
