Dear <<First Name>>,
The Exponential Medicine newsletter brings you this week's curated top news (links below) impacting the future of healthcare and biomedicine, and a compelling xMed talk on augmenting biology and tissue engineering. Join us for Exponential Medicine 2019 this November 4-7th. Check out our updated set of xMed faculty and the 4 day agenda.
Augmented Biology and The Human Body--From plants as platforms for tissue engineering to biohacking: As masterfully covered in this fascinating talk at xMed 2018 by scientist Andrew Pelling PhD, biology has evolved to have an exquisite link between the physicality and the biochemistry of the microenvironment. Shape, stretch and shear, regulate the biologic environment as demonstrated in the emerging field of mechanobiology. Mechanical forces can provide new tools for stimulating cells and understanding the their influence on cancer biology to the screening of drugs. This has led Andrew Pelling and his curiosity driven lab to explore and develop new approaches to tissue engineering, using plants as scaffolds for growing soft tissues with human cells, to bone and even nerve repair. This could lead to a new era of regenerative medicine, biomaterials and biohacking.
You may also be interested in the 4th Annual Big Data Summit taking place in San Diego on October 29th from our xMed partner Biocom, the largest and most experienced leader and advocate of California’s life science sector. This one-day event is an annual convergence of industry executives, bio-technologists and data scientists, dedicated to deploying emerging technologies within the life science industry, as it relates to Big Data. Through a blend of illuminating keynotes, dynamic panel discussions, and interactive use-case studies from life science organizations and best in class technology partners, this summit is aimed at bringing together thought-leaders at the forefront of innovations in artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, computational drug discovery, genomics, and MIoT.
All the best,
Daniel
