President Message

Greetings all,

The VAPS committee recently met and the main agenda was to gel plans for our 2020 convention which is to be held in Wangaratta on the last weekend in June, as previously advised in Newsbrief.

Dates are Friday 26th June to Sunday 28th June.
We are extremely pleased to announce that Olympus Australia has offered to be our main sponsor again for this convention and will offer prizes and portrait workshops at the venue during the weekend.

We are also excited to announce our speakers and in the coming months we will tell you more about them and what they will present.

Our main keynote speaker is Mark Raynor from Trekabout Photography and he will present two different topics, one on each morning. Mark will also offer a workshop on the Saturday afternoon. Mark leads amazing workshops throughout the world and is a wonderful travel photographer with heaps of experience.

We also have the awesome talents of two leading Tasmanian Photographers, Luke Tscharke and Paul Hoelen. They will both present and also conduct a workshop. Be prepared to see and experience some awesome landscape and travel photography.

We also have the wonderful talent of Richard White, A monochrome expert and beautiful landscape photographer from Mansfield Victoria. Richard too, will be offering a workshop for those attending.

Karl Ludik will also, once again lead the Olympus team at our convention, including a free portrait workshop for those attending.

Five professional photographers in total will be there to share with us their expert advice and enthral us with their presentations. All five are AIPP accredited photographers and something we will not want to miss.

Want more, of course we do! A special treat on Sunday! We have invited Silvi Glattauer to speak to us about printing. Silvi is a practising photomedia artist and recognised as an authority on the Photopolymer Photogravure process as well as working in a range of other photographic processes. A true professional, Silvi’s work is held by the Victorian State Library and State Museum among many other institutions. She will offer us a wonderful presentation and a workshop we can book to attend.

On Sunday Bill Botterill is presenting on behalf of the Victorian 3D society so we can learn about the process of taking and showing stereo photographs.

This is going to be a fantastic convention, you will not want to miss it. Registration forms and other information are being prepared. These will be on the New VAPS website soon. All of us should spend a few moments looking at our new website, as it’s been completely re-designed and will be so easy to register and pay via this portal.

Finally, we can tell you that the VAPS committee was given an excellent presentation by the club that is organising the 2021 convention! Plans are nearly completed for this event as well. Our committee is dedicated to advancing photography and keeping you all informed. All members work hard on your behalf continually, with most of it behind the scenes. If any club members are interested in serving on our committee, please give it some serious thought. Please consider coming to the AGM in November. We would love to see a representation from every club in Victoria.

I will be away from this week for two months co-conducting a photographic forum in the Antarctic and then co-leading an adventure workshop in Himalayan Bhutan. I get home just in time for Christmas. For any additional information on VAPS matters, you can direct this to my very capable Vice President Alfred Zommers.

Warm regards to all

Ian Rolfe
