The summer of women in sport is here. The 2019-20 W-League draw is out and all's not fair in football, our recent dominance in the cricket should whet your appetite for WBBL season five which began this weekend. And the oldest league on the block, the WNBL, is off to a great start with record breaking crowds in Perth and Canberra.

And you know what? We don't need to keep talking about pay parity, we just need to commit to it. Immediately. Just ask Cricket Australia and the Rugby League International Federation.

Around the grounds

Things are a little bleak out there in the mainstream. Today was a little better than last week's 2% of sports coverage for women but we can all agree that 8% still isn't good enough. I'll keep scouring the web for quality coverage and please send me articles you would like me to share.

PATTY LA BELLA - BEYOND 90
"2019 NWSL Semi-Final Preview". Sam Kerr hopes to continue her goal scoring form for Chicago in Monday’s semi-final but she's got to get past Hayley Raso, Caitlin Foord and Ellie Carpenter at Portland.

STEPHANIE YANG - THE ATHLETIC (USA)
"How Chicago are better prepared to try to solve their Portland problem". For 90 minutes during that last loss to Portland, the default position of the Red Stars was “find a way to get it to Sam Kerr.” Which, given Sam Kerr is SAM KERR, is a very reasonable default position to take.

MARY KONSTANTOPOULOS - LADIES WHO LEAGUE
"The ins and outs for WBBL05". This will be the first ever standalone WBBL season. We have seen the appetite for women’s cricket continue to grow over the last couple of years and after the sold out stand alone final between the Sixers and the Heat last year at Drummoyne Oval, I’m confident that this season will be a success.

SARAH ALEY - THE ROAR
"The Australian representative contingent came into camp with less than a week to prepare with the squad". Why the lead-up to this WBBL season has been the most challenging yet.

MEGAN MAURICE - THE GUARDIAN
"New Zealand edge Australia in one-goal Constellation Cup thriller ". In the 151st encounter between Australia and New Zealand, the screens were full of flashbacks to previous games, dating back to 1938. It was a sign of things to come – this was to be a classic battle between the two old foes.

Correction: last week's historical image was not actually of the Matildas in 1979, it was a group of players, mainly from the St George Budapest team who toured Hong Kong in 1975. Thanks to Matildas legend Julie Dolan for that info.
