Welcome, Steven!

The board of directors of NOVA is pleased to announce it has named Steven Blackmon as Interim Artistic Director for the 2019-2020 season. Steven has sung with NOVA and served as its rehearsal and concert accompanist for the last seven years. He brings to the position an intimate understanding of NOVA’s mission and needs, and we, in turn have the certainty that we have a fine and highly skilled musician at the helm, someone whom we already love and respect. His bio, which follows, reinforces our belief that NOVA will not miss a beat!
 

 

Pursuing an active career as an orchestral and choral conductor and accompanist, Steven Blackmon has established his reputation in New Orleans as the guiding light of an array of outstanding concerts and recitals. Steven’s skill at the keyboard has created a demand for his accompaniment talent among some of the country’s best singers and orchestra principals. He has also achieved remarkable success with both children’s and volunteer choirs, displaying an extraordinary combination of musical insight, wit, and the ability to motivate all of his performers. In thirty-three years at his current post as Director of Music and Organist for the St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church in New Orleans, he has created one of the city’s most admired music programs.
