Declining imports, trade deficit not a cause for concern: experts (The Myanmar Time, 21 October)
Myanmar saw a shrinking of its trade deficit to US$1.1 billion in fiscal 2018-19, the first time in six years that exports grew faster than imports. “The trade deficit for 2018-19 declined substantially due to higher export volumes and a dip in imports compared to last year,” said U Khin Maung Lwin, assistant secretary at the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).

PTTOR aims to open first petrol station in Myanmar next year (The Eleven Media, 21 October)
Buranin Rattanasombat, executive vice-president of planning at PTT Oil and Retail Business (PTTOR), revealed on Friday (October 18) that the company is planning to expand its markets in neighbouring countries as part of its overseas business strategy.


Myanmar citizen investment volume reaches K 19,000 billion including US$ 10 billion in 11 economic sectors (The Eleven Media, 18 October)
Myanmar citizen investment volume reached K 19,000 billion including US$ 10 billion in 11 economic sectors of Myanmar within 31 years, with the most investment in real estate accounting for 22 %, according to the official statistics of the Department of Investment and Company Administration (DICA).


Yangon Stock Exchange Due to Let Myanmar-Based Foreigners Trade (The Irrawaddy, 18 October)
Foreigners living in Myanmar will be allowed to buy and sell on the Yangon Stock Exchange in the first phase of the process of opening up to the international market, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Myanmar (SECM).


The World Bank's Latest Report on Myanmar: 5 Takeaways on Growth and Risks (The Irrawaddy, 17 October)
The World Bank’s latest forecast predicts that Myanmar will see positive growth, risks and challenges in the short- to mid-term future. The forecast highlights the country’s growing GDP and reductions to poverty as well as increasing inflation and fiscal deficits.

Viber eyes more growth in Myanmar (The Myanmar Time, 17 October)
Rakuten Viber wants to expand its services in Myanmar beyond calling and instant messaging to incorporate payments, transfers and e-commerce, its chief executive, Djamel Agaoua, told the Myanmar Times during a recent interview.
