Courageous Conversations: Cultivating Curiosity

We are born with wide eyes of wonder—but this curiosity can fade with age. How do we keep our fervor for learning, understanding and adapting to the changing world around us? How can we check our tendencies toward stubborn certainty, false confidence or confirmation bias? How do we remain open-minded to new ideas and divergent perspectives? Join us for the third monthly session of A Year of Courageous Conversations at Barrington’s White House, led by guest expert Dr. Arin N. Reeves.

This evening's event is currently wait listed. Click here to add your name to the list or learn more about this series.

BStrong Together QPR Suicide Prevention and Intervention Training for Parents and Community Members

Question.  Persuade.  Refer.  Three simple steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide.

Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR is the most widely taught Gatekeeper training in the world. In just 90 minutes, you can learn how to save a life from suicide.

BStrong Together is committed to creating a community of support for our children, families, and community members. QPR training aims to expand the safety net for those in crisis as more members of the community learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone for help.

Join us for this FREE life-saving training.  Click here to register.

E-Cigarettes & Vaping: What You Need to Know

Traditional cigarette usage has continued to fall among teens, dropping nearly 23% over the past 40 years, but more than 3 million middle and high schoolers are now using e-cigarettes, or "vaping." In September of 2018, the Food and Drug Administration declared that teen vaping rates in the US  had reached epidemic proportions.  According to the annual Monitoring the Future survey, 1 out of every 4 high school seniors, 1 in 5 high school sophomores, and 1 in 11 8th graders in the United States reported recent vaping. Self-reported rates of usage within the past 30 days from Barrington High School students on the Illinois Youth Survey are even higher.

BStrong Together and the Barrington High School PTO will bring experts from FAIR Counseling Center, the Lake County Heath Department and others to talk about this dangerous trend in our community and what can be done for the healthy and safety of our children.

This event has been created for parents, students, educators, and other concerned community members.
