The Ivywood 4th graders have recently finished reading Robin Hood and have just begun King Arthur and the Round Table. They have had lively discussions about the common themes in the two novels. Students have noticed that words like chivalry, honor, justice and equality appear often in both books. Some children asked why there are fights and violence in both books, and this led to a great discussion about how important it is to know what a time period was really like.....even when it's not all rainbows and unicorns!
Meet Mrs. Adkins, our 1st-grade teacher
Meet Mrs. Amanda Adkins, our first-grade teacher at Ivywood. Teaching the whole child has been a focus for Mrs. Adkins since she started to teach. She loves that this is part of Ivywood’s mission and that the humanities, sciences, and arts are all integrated into the curriculum.

Channels of Communication at Ivywood Classical Academy
Our first school year at Ivywood Classical Academy is off to a great start. We are committed to open and honest communication here at Ivywood. It is extremely important at Ivywood Classical Academy that we are communicating effectively with each other. To ensure that we do this, we have created a communication flow so that you know who to turn to with your questions or comments.
The communications "chain of command" is as follows:
1. Teacher
2. School Leader, Mrs. Kooiker
3. Choice Schools Superintendent, Mr. Naber
4. Ivywood Classical Academy Board of Directors
Also, look for details in our next newsletter about a parent Facebook group.
New Upcoming Before & After School Care program
We are excited for Ivywood Classical Academy & the YMCA to partner on a new upcoming Before & After School Care program. Ivywood is working closely with the YMCA to facilitate the licensing process to make the transition as smooth as possible. Once the YMCA is fully authorized to start this program, we will be sending more information home to families.
Until we receive our licensing with the YMCA, at this time, we can no longer provide After School Homework Club. Before School Homework Club is still available at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the front office 248.207.1757 orivywoodclassical@choiceschools.com.
