Halloween Pedestrian Safety

Darkness is coming earlier as the weeks move on in the year, and daylight hours will be reduced even more when Daylight Saving Time ends Nov. 3. Law enforcement partners are encouraged to promote pedestrian safety to community groups, churches and other organizations and clubs. Remind pedestrians to always cross at crosswalks, be predictable, follow the rules of the road, and most importantly, to be visible by carrying a flashlight at night.

Halloween provides an opportunity to remind parents and their children to wear reflective clothing as part of their costumes, to always carry a flashlight and to travel in groups with parents or another adult. Drivers need to avoid neighborhoods during peak trick-or-treating times, and they need to buckle up, avoid distractions and plan ahead for a safe ride home after the Halloween celebration.

Additionally, consider posting these banner ads from NHTSA on your social media sites, and downloading the Be Street Smart digital toolkit for other pedestrian safety social media materials. Thanks for supporting traffic safety!
