RISE

UNTO A NEW LIFE

The Baptism of John Eli Moberly

by Rev. Drew Brattrud

After helping manage over 150 services, God had tugged enough on Johnathan Eli Moberly’s heart. John has a beaming smile and a warm handshake. He is always ready to make those around him feel at ease. Attentively, he listens to each sermon, digesting it and allowing it to nourish his soul. Last Sunday was the culmination of many, many prayers. I was overwhelmed with joy at the news when his mother Missy sent word; “John wants to get baptized this Sunday!!!”               That is the most exciting thing I heard on what was already a great day. God answers prayer! As long as I have known the Moberly family, their son John was their heart, and one of their highest prayers was for him to receive water baptism.

As the ice-cold waters flowed over his face, there was a new shiver felt in his heart. Walking in obedience to Jesus’ command brings us that good feeling that we are on the right path. John is on the right path. John has given the great confession that he has faith in Jesus Christ, who lived, was crucified, who died, was buried and is risen. John’s baptism was an enactment not only of that but of the spiritual life that has been resurrected within him. We are thankful for the opportunity to share in such a good, young man’s journey of faith and are excited to see what great things God will do in his life. I am very proud of him.

Bowtie Sunday

by Frank Castle

Who is the best dressed man at RCA? Immediately you might think of Rev. Manny, AKA “The man wearing a tie.” Most weeks, the only man wearing one. Or perhaps you noticed the worship team upping their game. Mike Harris must be a candidate. Even Rev. Drew has been influenced by these powerful brothers and has been seen sporting a sport coat. But Stephon Miller brings the style game to the next level. He is the man responsible for inspiring last week’s “Bowtie Sunday.”
Stephon and his lovely wife Ester are part of the 10:30am service. As they and some of the RCA leaders were teasing each other about style several weeks ago, it was discovered the Stephon had many bowties and he was willing to share. The following week he generously gave out about a dozen, showing how to tie them. RCA had to match and decided to theme a Sunday. Talk about influence. Men were not the only ones joining the day, many ladies took the bowtie style to the next level. We are thankful for the great event, the fun we had and the many great pictures.

Omazing Man

by Jesus Fontez

Half man, half Omazing! Manuel Camarena aka Pastor Manny aka Handy Manny aka Counselor Manny aka husband aka Father aka Grandpa aka house provider!!! Sheesh! He is a man of many hats to say the least! How he manages his time is Oooomazing! At times, he works 12 to 15 hours a day, and yet he still manages to make time for family and church. Manny is a great leader that leads by example. I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside him, and have seen how his Godly influence transfers over to his job. Oftentimes he can be found lifting coworkers’ spirits with kind wisdom. His prayer life is extended beyond his home and carries over to random people on the streets. Manny is a man who is not shy to pray for anyone, any time any place. He has been with RCA for over 5 years, and has been responsible for many ministries. Some of which include feeding the less fortunate, clothing people with radical decals. If you ever see Pastor Manny around RCA he will greet you with a smile and a joke, and will make you feel welcome. We are truly blessed to have such a great leader, and man of influence to follow.

Sunday is Funday

by Paula Dorning

Or is it sundae is funday? Maybe it’s a bit of both.
First, Sunday is funday because we get to gather at RCA to celebrate our faith in Christ.                  Second, sundae is funday because RCA is having an ice cream social on Oct 20 after second service. Just bring your own mug and we will fill it up with your favorite scoop of ice cream and tasty toppings.
Entertainment will be provided by our own RCa family. If you, or a member of your family plays an instrument, sings songs or can bust out a dance move, call to set up a time slot to share your talent. This is a perfect opportunity for those younger family members learning a new skill to have a supportive audience.
Remember to preregister with the staff for a time slot to share your talent. See you there for Sunday/Sundae is a Funday!

Love vs Offense

by Teresa Ford

As a young christian I was welcomed to the family of God with an overabundance of Love. I was very excited about life, and I put all I had into everything I did.  As time passed, fear settled in, and my ministry and work had become my identity.  I became obsessed with them and was afraid of losing them.  At church I became offended by others who suggested new ways of doing things, at work I was no longer considered the best at what I did, and I became angry and most everything offended me.                                It was at this point I found myself at a crossroad. I saw the possibly of back-sliding from my growth as a woman of God.   Offense had plagued me, but God redeemed me! I found that being willing to let go of position and possessions was of the utmost importance. I realized the importance of emulating what I knew in others to be essential. I became willing to do whatever God asked of me, no matter what the task even if it meant letting go of what I didn't want to. As time has passed one of the most important things I find in my walk today is when I get too much of “me” in my thinking, I get into trouble. I become easily offended, consumed with possessions and position.  I know now, after the years have passed that being offended stems from fear: the fear of losing and peace comes from love. I recite this scripture often, to stay focused: 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.”          Today I am striving to be offense-proof and walk in love, taking hold of the inheritance God has promised me
