City of Ventura, Community Environmental Council to Help Residents Prepare for Power Outages at Home Energy Storage Workshop

As Ventura, like other CA communities, braces for widespread outages, solar-paired battery storage presents powerful solution

October 17, 2019, VENTURA, CA – Community Environmental Council (CEC) and the City of Ventura present a free Home Energy Storage Workshop to help Ventura homeowners understand the ins and outs of pairing solar power with battery storage.

When: Wednesday, October 30, 2019, 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Where: Ventura City Hall - Community Meeting Room, 501 Poli Street, 2nd Floor, Ventura, CA

Led by CEC, the free workshop will provide the community an opportunity to gather and discuss power backup options in the face of potential widespread “public safety power shutoffs “ (PSPS).

“Thousands of people lost electricity in Northern California last week, and Southern California Edison announced thousands more in Santa Barbara will face the same threat this week. With the prospect of long term power outages, we have seen a big uptick in energy storage inquiries,” stated April Price, CEC’s Renewable Energy Program Manager. “We want to help people see that generators aren’t the only option; solar-paired batteries are a safe, easy-to-use power backup solution.”

CEC has partnered with the City of Ventura since 2014 to offer Solarize Ventura, a program that provides a streamlined purchasing process and group-purchasing discounts. In that time, the program has helped 213 Ventura homeowners go solar. In the last two years, battery storage options have been available as part of Solarize Ventura in response to community demand.

At the October 30 workshop, participants will gain insight into the technical, financial, and safety considerations of tying batteries to solar energy as a backup power source. The first hour will feature a series of speakers from public utilities, nonprofits, energy storage companies, and the City of Ventura. Afterwards, homeowners can enjoy light snacks during a mixer where local energy companies will answer questions about products and services.

The free workshop is sponsored by the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator, in partnership with the Community Environmental Council, City of Ventura, Central Coast Green Building Council, and the Institute for Energy Efficiency.
