October 2019

Kia ora koutou, the end of the calendar year is approaching fast and we look forward  seeing as many of you as possible at the Trafinz conference next month.

The new executive will be confirmed at the SASTA AGM (Tuesday the 12th of November at 1pm )  - thanks to those regions who have nominated one or two people to represent and continue the good work of our executive. While we try to have each region represented, as per last year's agreed upon remit we can fill the required number of executive members from across the membership if a region is unable to supply a member.

As SASTA is a Bronze sponsor of the Trafinz conference we have one free registration for one of our member who might otherwise be unable to attend (you will be required to cover your own accommodation and travel costs). To apply please email our co-chairs chair@sasta.org.nz

We also have a Poster display space if anyone is keen display some of their work. Please contact Ngaire Atmore to  register your interest.

Trafinz Conference 2019

Trafinz 2019 will focus on 'Smart, safe and accessible places' building on the people-centric success of Trafinz Conference 2018 'Prioritising for People'.

Trafinz is excited to have world leading experts coming to Hamilton to share their experiences via presentations and interactive workshops.  The conference will focus on:

  • Safe system principles and road safety outcomes for people
  • Placemaking that is designed for people
  • Accessibility for people and wellbeing
  • Smart transportation for people

Our daily journeys need to do more than leave us alive, they must enable the life we choose and empower people to improve their lives within communities that are thriving and are environmentally sustainable.  To achieve that we must work together to create vibrant, healthy and sustainable communities for people.

MAM thank you!

MAM 2019 was a very big step up from the previous year, and the team at ACC wanted to give you all a massive group thank-you to everyone who helped make MAM19 a big success.

Overview

MAM launched in Auckland in partnership with Auckland Transport and over 170 motorcyclists attended the event. TV3 covered the MAM launch with a 2 minute article on the 6pm news. Following on from the Auckland launch, eleven regional MAM events were held throughout the country.  A standout regional event was the Nelson event where over 500 motorcyclists attended  and 88 sign ups to Ride Forever were taken.  ACC are still collecting the final numbers for the number of motorcyclists and Ride Forever registrations at each event - they’ll send a final report on that once all the details are collected.

Early results

This year MAM had a strong media-driven campaign targeting drivers to remind them to look twice for motorcyclists.  The MAM campaign got great results. Over 2000 people showed their support by applying the MAM Facebook filter on their profile [last year we had 500], visits to the MAM website increased 19 fold, engagements on the Ride Forever Facebook page increased three fold, and during September 758 Ride Forever courses were completed compared to 527 the previous year.  At a national level we had a weekly focus [Ride Forever, Gear, Drivers, Bike Tech] with our creative and promotion of the articles on the MAM site.  This was effective at keeping the content fresh and engagement high. The ACC content team developed a range of engaging and relevant articles that had high levels of engagement which added to the success of MAM19.

Thanks again for all your hard work , it really is appreciated. MAM wouldn’t have been the success it was this year without your efforts.
