Our October Update is here, bringing you the news from the global ESP community. 

ESP 10th World Conference 

21-25 October 2019, Hannover, Germany

10 years advancing ecosystem services science, policy and practice for a sustainable future



ESP10 starts next week and we hope to see many of you there! With more than 700 expected delegates from over 65 countries it is going to be the biggest ESP conference so far.

Don't forget to follow the conference on Twitter with #ESP10 and you can expect the conference proceedings to be available online afterwards.

Call for input: Questionnaire


Prior to ESP10 conference session G6a, the hosts would like to collect some input from the wider ESP community. Please fill in the questionnaire: How can we assess the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process on the ES concept?

News from our Working Groups


TWG 4 - Mapping of ES

A recent paper on Evaluating social learning in participatory mapping of ecosystem services was co-authored by TWG 4 members. Read more. 

Disentangling ‘ecosystem services’ and ‘nature’s contributions to people’


A new paper co-authored by a team of young international researchers from the YESS Network focuses on disentangling the concepts of ecosystem services and nature's contribution to people. The review is published in the Ecosystems and People journal. Read the paper here

News from our Regional Chapters and National Networks


Brazil National Network

Small rural establishments in Brazil: Allied in recovery and environmental conservation practices
Members of the ESP Brazil NN investigated the relationship between rural establishments area and conservationist agricultural practices and the relationship between these areas and conservation and environmental recovery practices done by farm owners. Read more.



Brazilian researchers developed a methodology that shows probability of regions being deforested in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest. Read more.

Embrapa Soils In Cooperation with Braunschweig University (Germany) organized the short trainning "Water in Agriculture". Read more.


Cameroon National Network

We are happy to announce the establishment of our newest national network - Cameroon. Led by Florentine Tchoffo the NN team plans to create a transdisciplinary national network of researchers, policy and decision makers, non-governmental organizations, and practitioners involved in ecosystem services in Cameroon.
