Together We Achieved Another Record Year.

Our Fall harvest party is just a week away, and we have more reason than ever to celebrate.  Recent donations have elevated our total to more than 4,230 pounds of produce - our highest donation level ever for Neighbors Nourishing Communities Gardeners!  Thank you for contributing to another successful season.

Please join us as we celebrate and show gratitude to our gardeners and community partners.  We'll be commemorating another successful season, awarding prizes, and providing garlic starts to those interested in planting now for a late spring harvest.  We are planning a potluck event this year for those who are interested and able to share their foodie talent.

When:  Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 p.m.
Where:  Mitch Charter School, 19550 SW 90th Ct., Tualatin
Who:  You!  All gardeners, community partners, and those interested in finding out more about Neighbors Nourishing Communities.
Optional:  Please bring your favorite potluck dish to share

Again, thank you to all who have contributed harvest donations this year, as well as to our community partners.  We hope you'll be able to join us as we celebrate.

Fall & Winter Gardening

If you’ve been enjoying the fruits (or vegetables) of your labor and aren’t yet ready to put away your trowel for the season, there are several vegetables that you can plant now, that will grow throughout the fall and winter for harvest in winter or spring.  Why not put those unused garden beds to work?  Leeks, onions, garlic, kale, chives and spinach are particularly hardy and may be able to withstand temperatures as low as 0°.  Check the varietal to ensure success, and use vegetable starts rather than seeds at this point in the season.  While it may take some experimentation based on differing winter weather, many vegetables require little to no attention through the winter.
It is still important to replenish nutrients in the soil, so be sure to add compost or soil nutrients before planting.  More information on vegetables and varieties that can be grown through the winter, along with additional fall and winter gardening guidelines specific to the Pacific Northwest can be found at the following link: Pacific NW Fall & Winter Gardening.
Neighbors Nourishing Communities (NNC) is an organization of neighbors gardening to raise fresh produce for local families in need of food support.  We provide plants, seeds, instruction and site consultations in exchange for 20% of the produce raised.
