Central Queensland bushfires grants open

A second round of grants of up to $150,000 each is now available to help Central Queensland communities further recover from the 2018 bushfires.

Queensland-based community groups, local councils, non-government organisations, peak and industry groups, research bodies, and for-profit organisations delivering to the bushfire-impacted local government areas of Banana, Bundaberg, Central Highlands, Gladstone, Isaac, Livingstone, Mackay and Rockhampton are encouraged to apply.

Applications close 5 November 2019, at 2:00pm.

Open: Australian Community Sector Survey 2019

You are invited to take part in the Australian Community Sector Survey to share your thoughts on what is needed to improve the sector's capacity and impact. All staff in community sector organisations can participate. 

The survey has been commissioned by the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS), on behalf of the COSS Network, with support from Community Sector Banking.

It should take around 15 minutes for most people to complete. The survey closes 18 October 2019.

Launched: Queensland Sexual Violence Prevention Framework

The Queensland Government has launched its first ever Sexual Violence Prevention Framework.

Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Di Farmer said Prevent. Support. Believe. Queensland’s Framework to address Sexual Violence committed to a Queensland where everyone lives free of the fear, threat or experience of sexual violence.

Ms Farmer said the framework covered all forms of sexual violence, including sexual assault, harassment, child sexual abuse and technology-facilitated sexual violence.

Skill development in cultural safety is an important part of supporting service users and internal teams alike. The evidence of this skill development is a critical part of HSQF compliance.

You may find this video an interesting discussion starter for your team if you are looking to have more conversations about cultural safety. Discussion questions may include: “what about this surprised you?” and “what has this stirred up for you?”

New: Power of Community Conference

Do you work for a small community organisation? Are you looking for expert advice and support?

The Power of Community conference celebrates and builds on the impact our community organisations are having across Queensland.

With a focus on creating change at a local level, the program will be a combination of presentations from non-profit experts, including the importance of storytelling, how to attract grants, when and how to innovate, and the importance of resilience and wellbeing.

Funding: Social Enterprise Grants Program

Social enterprises can be non-profit, for-profit or hybrid businesses that exist to benefit the public and community and are established to address a range of cultural, social and environmental issues.

The Social Enterprise Grants Program will provide assistance between $5,000 to $50,000 to enable social enterprises to access professional advice and support in the critical early stages of establishing and growing their business, and to assist in testing ideas in the market, or using technology to achieve their reach and mission.

NDIS: Indigenous Business Forum

What are the opportunities in the NDIS space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses?

At the NDIS Indigenous Business Forum attendees will find tips for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples wanting to start their own business in the NDIS space. 

The event is being hosted by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT), in partnership with WorkAbility Queensland. It takes place on 23 October 2019, at QUT Gardens Point Campus, Brisbane.
