Win a pack of Christmas cards!

To celebrate the launch of this year's Christmas card designs, World Cancer Research Fund is giving away three packs of cards to readers of our e-news. All you have to do is email us your name and postal address by Friday 8 November and we'll pick three entries at random to win a pack of cards each*. If you're not one of the lucky ones, you can buy cards from our online shop.

Featured above are Madeleine and Roger Dakin, who got in touch with us to share their story of being diagnosed with bowel cancer, at the ages of 70 and 65 respectively.

Madeleine says: "You tend to live in a bubble when you're diagnosed with cancer. [But] you need to make the effort to get out in to the community, whether that's going to the gym or a simple exercise class, or just going for a short walk.

"I can’t stress enough that you remember the person you were before the cancer diagnosis, and not define yourself by it." You can read Madeleine and Roger's story here.

An update from Melissa

In a previous e-news, Melissa Mogor, our Public Health Adviser, wrote about WCRF's Cancer Survivor Champions project, in which people living with and beyond cancer share WCRF evidence on diet and cancer, plus their own experiences, with local patient support groups.

The project is now up and running, and Melissa writes: "
Working on this programme has provided me with a deeper insight into the impact of cancer on areas that we, as a research-based charity, do not often address.

"Listening to people in the support groups really highlighted the importance of involving loved ones throughout your journey. This often helped provide relief for patients in several ways, which allowed them to focus more on healthier behaviours to help them live well during cancer."

WCRF are supporting the Champions with delivering their sessions, and our team of oncology health professionals provide additional expertise. We’re always interested in hearing from people living with cancer who would consider getting trained up to deliver the sessions. For more details, get in touch with Melissa at m.mogor@wcrf.org.

Patrick arrives home

You may remember previous updates from rugby fan Patrick McIntosh, who cycled from Twickenham to Tokyo to raise money for us. Well, we're thrilled to say he reached Japan in time for the opening game of the Rugby World Cup, and has now arrived safely back home in England. You can read all about his adventures here.
Do you have any comments about our e-news? Whether you've found something particularly useful, tried a recipe or have ideas for how we could improve our information, we'd love to hear from you.

With best wishes,
Maxine at World Cancer Research Fund
