We just have a short newsletter this time - The first half term of the year is always very busy and time is spent preparing for the rest of the year. Nevertheless please enjoy the two items we are able to tell you about below now.
As I'm sure most of you are aware Ofsted published a new framework in September. It has more emphasis on a broad curriculum and therefore from our point of view is more musical. I will be working on providing guidance for schools on the music curriculum during half term and this will be sent to schools and published in the next newsletter.
Other that that I hope you have a great break and then it's time to start dusting off those carols.
All the very best,
Denise

SPLASH 2019
Southwark Splash started its Mayflower 400 project last term with 'Mayflower -The Journey Begins’ performed in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on 16th July 2019. Sixteen classes of children from schools across the borough received workshops for a six week period leading up to the two performances of four newly commissioned songs charting the voyage of the Mayflower, along side a few old favourites.
The 24th of June 2020 will see the complete work 'The Mayflower & The Karibu’ performed in the Royal Festival Hall where almost 500 children will join groups across Europe & America as they mark the 400th anniversary of the Mayflowers epic journey from Rotherhite in our home Borough to the New World.
We were dazzled by brilliant Australian concert pianist John Granger Fisher this half-term as he played 4 short recitals for our children, two in schools and two in the beautiful St Pete’s Church in Walworth. We were spellbound by the amazing dexterity, technical ability and heartfelt playing John shared with us in his performance of some very challenging Chopin Etudes.
We are truly grateful to him for this wonderful gift and hope perhaps he’ll be back soon to play in some more of our schools.
If you want to hear him play all the Chopin Etudes, he will be performing them Friday 18th October 7.30pm at Chancellors Hall, Senate House, Malet Street, WC1E 7HU Tickets available Here
