These investors are taking a stand
against nuclear weapons 

PAX and ICAN revealed this week that 77 financial institutions have policies against investing in companies producing nuclear weapons. This is 14 more than in the 2018 report.

Beyond the Bomb: global exclusion of nuclear weapon producers
 
In this new report, PAX and ICAN profile 77 banks, pension funds, insurance companies and asset managers that have in place a policy against nuclear weapons. 36 institutions, whose policy comprehensively excludes all nuclear weapon producers, are listed in the Hall of Fame.

41 institutions have policies that consider nuclear weapons controversial, but contain one or more loopholes. They are listed in the Runners-Up, because by adopting a policy restricting investments in nuclear weapons, they demonstrate that the days of investing with impunity in the companies building the bomb are over.

Mainstreaming exclusion


The number of financial institutions with public policies that exclude nuclear weapons continues to grow.  Don’t Bank on the Bomb’s Hall of Fame and Runners-Up have grown steadily from 35 in 2014 to 54 in 2016 (the year before the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons was adopted) to 77 in this report. This increase provides a snapshot of what is becoming the new norm in the financial sector.
