Enrollment report shows continued growth in District 196 schools
Enrollment in District 196 reached a new all-time high this year and is projected to continue growing over the next several years. Student Information Supervisor Kim Reis presented the official Oct. 1 enrollment report to the School Board during its Oct. 14 meeting. The report shows 29,223 students enrolled in the district on Oct. 1, an increase of 348 students (1.2 percent) over last year. This is the seventh consecutive year of rising enrollment in District 196 and the growth is expected to continue at a more rapid rate in the years ahead.
Among other things at the Oct. 14 meeting the board:
- Recognized Rosemount High School's Steven Albaugh on being named Choral Director of the Year by the American Choral Director's Association of Minnesota;
- Received a report on how the district meets the needs of students with characteristics of dyslexia, and
- Received a report on the growing need for additional mental health support for students.

School Board candidate forum available on district's YouTube channel
Nine of the 12 candidates seeking four open positions on the District 196 School Board answered questions and shared their ideas for education during a candidate forum sponsored by the Dakota County League of Women Voters earlier this month. The forum is available on the District 196 YouTube channel and is being shown on District 196 TV on the Spectrum (channel 189) and Comcast (channel 19) cable systems. Read more...

Rosemount and Eastview bands march to top-three finishes at state
The Rosemount and Eastview high school marching bands showed off their incredible talents at the Youth in Music Marching Band Championships last weekend at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Irish once again took home the titles of Class 4A champion and grand champion. Rosemount also earned captain awards for Outstanding Visual and Music. Eastview's performance landed them a spot in the finals, where they finished in third place.
