October Community Newsletter

We are two weeks into October and we realized that we had not sent out our monthly newsletter!  There is a lot of interesting news to share so this newsletter will not be just about the incredible Houston Quilt show specials.  We hope to split this newsletter into two.  One focused on our Longarmers and another for our Quilters / Piecers.

Quilters - hang with us, we have more coming your way.

What's in the newsletter...

  1. A 30-year Anniversary - is it a sign of things to come?
  2. Handi Quilter Promotions - that we can't write about
  3. MK Quilts is Announcing it is Expanding

A 30-year Anniversary

Is it a sign of things to come?
MK Quilts is only 12-years old.  But for those that do not follow MK's Facebook postings closely, you may be surprised to know that MK and Mr. MK have been married 30-years as of the 14th of October!
A wonderful night at Flemmings together was made more special by a quilt-related story.  You have to read the story as it was posted on the night of the special occasion...
MK writes on her Facebook:  "I shouldn’t be on social media but as we wait for our food I have to share our wine story. So we decided to ask for a taste of what we were going to order. Waiter offered a blind flight tasting so we could really decide if that’s what we wanted. Well that worked because what we thought we wanted wasn’t what we ordered. Ok. So we decided.

The poor guy came back very apologetic. They were out of what we wanted. So he brought 3 more to offer as blind tastings. I loved the first one but we sampled all 3. When he came back we said #1 for the win. And what is that wine called? Quilt. I mean come on. How can this happen? Paul says God has a funny sense of humor.

The only thing the waiter did wrong when I said “can you repeat that name” was said.....”you know, Quilt. Like a blanket”. He has now been properly schooled. He’s been great. What a beautiful night with my loves. Paul Kruschwitz and Quilt, the wine. 😍"
We don't want to be too presumptuous about the official endorsement from "the man upstairs," but it was taken as a pretty good sign that we should put another 30-years in to each other and MK Quilts.

Handi Quilter Promotions

that we can't write about...
MK Quilts is honoring the special show pricing and promotions that only occur once a year at the National Houston Quilt show at the end of this month.  Due to our retailer agreement, we can't post the details here until they are officially posted by Handi Quilter.  But we are not going to sell a system at a higher price when we know a better deal is around the corner.  MK Quilts customers should never feel regret after purchasing their system from us.

If you are at all thinking of getting a new longarm with Pro-Stitcher, please contact us to discuss these special prices and promotions that will only be available for a short time.
MK Quilts Announces
We are Expanding
The MK Quilts studio is doubling its size!  Space next door suddenly became available and MK has big plans for it.  For those that are new to MK Quilts; one of the key differences from other Handi Quilter retailers is that we run a quilting studio and not a fabric and craft store.  Nor do we sell vacuum cleaners like in some other cases.  Our focus is on the longarming for our quilters and creating training content for our longarm followers.  We do sell and service longarm machines nationally, but that is not where we started and we want to be known for what we provide AFTER the machine sale.

MK will have her own studio area to create new content.  The main area can be used for formal classes and even a place for our local guild members to come and work on their projects together.  If you want to follow along with the expansion efforts, check out the video of the first walk-thru after signing the lease.  https://www.mkquilts.com/about.html#expanding  The walls are coming down soon!
Double Wedding Ring the MK Way
A new way to learn online
My DWR class is live and active and those who are taking it are loving it.

How it works
Buy the Class.  $25 gets you the class and all the instruction.  Your class fee also gives you permission to join the new Facebook group so that you can share and network with others who are taking the class.
Buy the Kit.  $22.50 gets you the tool needed for this technique and enough of the printed Quiltsmart interfacing panels to make a small table runner version.

Buy additional panels.  Want to make a bigger project?  Buy additional panels and make your project as large as you want.
This link will take you directly to my website.
https://www.mkquilts.com/apps/search?q=dwr

Also important to note, tools for the class are limited.
I ordered enough for the first round of students but they are dwindling.
So sign up now if you're interested.

Sew at your own pace.  This class is being released in short chapters.  Once I release all the chapters, your purchase will be complete.  You can keep up with me now, or you can just do the chapters as it fits into your life.  Once you own the class, you own the class (the entire class) and you can do it whenever.
The feedback on this style of my teaching has been very positive.  Look for other classes done in this fashion in the future.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.
Learn ProStitcher with MK in person at one of her live training events!

MK just finished her last official training event for the 2019 year.  She has to save her time for training all the new Pro-Stitcher owners that come onboard during the last months of the year.  As MK states, "If you build it, I will come."  So if you want MK in your area, start planning it now.  You do not have to be an MK Quilts machine owner to sponsor an event.  Anyone can request private training at the MK Quilts studio in Florida.  Make it part of your next vacation.

MK's Corner

October, the biggest month of the year for “sew” many reasons.

30 years sure does go by in a flash.  It’s been quite a ride for Me and Paul.  Hope you enjoyed the story above and following us on social media with all our anniversary celebrations.  Thanks to so many of you who reached out with congratulatory wishes.  It was a very special day.

What’s up next this month?  Yep, my birthday.  Planning some downtime that weekend with a visit to our daughter and son-in-law who live in Orlando.
And finally in October, the quilting industry closes out the month with the biggest quilt show in the USA as thousands converge on Houston, TX.  That's not in the cards for me this year.  If you’re going have fun.  And remember, if you’d like to wear one of our shirts while there, we’ll give it to you for free.  Order yours up soon so you have it in time.  And of course if you’re not going to Houston but would like a shirt, we have that option as well.  We love how they turned out and I’ve been wearing mine proudly already.

I’ve been seeing pictures on social media as fall has set in in other areas of the country.  Beautiful fall colors and even some snow already in some areas of the country.  Here in FL, it’s even turning a bit cooler.  If you can call a high of 87 cooling off.  Enjoy your change of season while always remembering, quilting is always in season.

Have a wonderful October.

Tech Tips

Advice for the use and maintenance of the tablet and simulation laptop.
Samson and Mr. MK work hard to make sure any support issues are taken care of as quickly as possible.  To facilitate scheduling their time, we have implemented an online process by which anyone can reserve an hour of time on their calendar.  Please go to the "Contact Us" page on the mkquilts.com website.

Pro-Stitcher History Bug

One confirmed way to cause your Pro-Stitcher software to lock/hang/crash is to use the nudge feature repeatedly.  We believe this is due to filling up the history list in Pro-Stitcher.  Until this bug is fixed, we recommend clearing the history regularly.  Also, make sure you understand all the options for repositioning so that you do not have to nudge your way across the quilt.

Clearing History may avoid PSP hanging up in other situations.

Pro-Stitcher Motor Torque

Have you ever had your Pro-Stitcher just stop moving the machine and the machine will just stitch slowly in place until you turn it off from the back?
Try increasing your Motor Torque Limit by 100.  This is not a percentage.  Do not exceed 500.

There are different motors and carriages out there and experience has shown that as motors age this setting may need to be increased.

If you are having a lot of these types of incidents, get with your retailer and open a call with Handi Quilter support.

Snipping Tool = Snip & Sketch

Updating Windows 10 to version 1903 will bring new features.  An enhanced Snipping Tool used for capturing sections of the screen is added.  It is called Snip & Sketch.

The Snipping Tool video by MK is still a good Tip of the Week to check out.

Thread Club Members Submit Your Selection

Yep!  We post this in every newsletter.  Wouldn't it be great to get three spools of thread each month that YOU CHOOSE!  Did we mention the discounts?  check it out here.

Omni Thread Club members have until the 15th to select their three thread colors for the month, or a random selection will be shipped.  Remember that you can get a shipping rebate when you order other items that ship with the thread.  Simply note on the order: Hold to ship with my thread club order.
USED MACHINES - We have several new owners that are selling their relatively new Avante machines with Pro-Stitcher on them.  Some with years of warranty left.  If you know someone looking to get started but has a smaller budget, let us connect you with these people through our website.

Can I afford the monthly payments?

Three to four quilts a month.  Quilting for others is just one way to pay off your dream machine.

MK Quilts will work with you honestly to get financed.  Let us talk to you about options you may have not considered.
