BACPS Fall 2019 Meeting Reminder

Join us at our Fall meeting on November 2, 2019 at the UC Botanical Garden. 200 Centennial Rd, Berkeley. 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Barry Rice, a professional carnivorous plant grower and the author of the book Growing Carnivorous Plants will discuss Drosera in the West and Sarracenia rubra viatorum.

Please bring any plants to trade, donate, or admire.

We will also vote on officers for next year, so if you are interested in running for a position, email a brief candidacy statement by October 25, 2019 to here with the position in the subject line. Please consider helping out for a year to keep our club running smoothly. 

Members running for election:

Treasurer: Open

Duties of offices are below. Members must be in good standing in order to run for office. 

President - The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer of this Society, shall preside at all meetings of the Society and of the Board of Directors, shall appoint and be an ex-Officio member of all Committees, shall approve all bills before payment, shall exercise general supervision over the affairs and activities of the Society, and shall perform other duties as may be requested by the Board of Directors.
 
Vice President - The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President during the absence of that Officer, provide support to the President, Chairs the Show and Sale Committee, coordinates regular membership meetings and programs, certifies the results of the election of Directors and Officers, and shall perform other duties as may be requested by the Board of Directors.
 
Secretary - The Secretary shall attend to the following:
a)     Provides advance notice of board meetings and regular meetings to directors and members, respectively, via electronic mail, newsletter, or other means as may be prescribed by the Board. Notice of meetings shall indicate how to access the meeting agenda or as described in Section 4 of Article VI.
b)     Book of minutes. The Secretary shall keep or cause to be kept, at the principal executive office or such other place as the Board of Directors may designate, a book of minutes of all business meetings and actions of than BACPS and its Board of Directors.
c)     Notices and other duties. The Secretary shall give, or cause to be given notice of all meetings of the members of the Board of Directors required by the bylaws to be given.
d)     The Secretary shall have such other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Director or the Bylaws.
 
Treasurer - The Treasurer shall attend to the following:
a)     Books of account. The Treasurer shall keep and maintain, or cause to be kept and maintained, adequate and correct books and records of accounts of the properties and business transactions of the corporation, including monthly accounts of its assets, liabilities, receipts, disbursements, gains, losses, capital, fund balances, and other matters customarily included in financial statements. The books of account shall be open to inspection by any member upon reasonable notice.
b)     Deposit and disbursement of money and valuables. The Treasurer shall deposit all money and other valuables in the name and to the credit of the corporation with such depositories as may be designated by the Board; shall disburse the funds of the corporation as may be ordered by the Board; shall render to the President and Directors, at each Board meeting, an account of all transactions as Treasurer.
c)     Bond. If required by the Board, the Treasurer shall give the corporation a bond in the amount and with the surety or sureties specified by the Board for faithful performance of the duties of the Treasurer and for restoration to the corporation of all its books, papers, vouchers, money, and other property of every kind in the Treasurer’s possession or under the Treasurer’s control on his or her death, resignation, or removal from office. Should such bond be required, the corporation shall bear the cost of obtaining such bond from a bonding agency.
d)     Budget. The Treasurer shall submit to the Board for its approval a proposed budget for the coming fiscal year not later than the June Board meeting.
e)     Develop reports as to the financial condition of the Society, and distribute such reports to the Board of Directors and other parties as required by law (California Corporation 8 Code 6321).
f)      The Treasurer shall have such other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board or the Bylaws.

The Garden entrance fee will be waived for BACPS members. Just mention you are attending the meeting to the kiosk staff. There is an earlier event at the garden, so parking will be very limited. We encourage carpooling or alternate transportation. Limited parking will be available in the parking lot across the street ($1 per hour).

We need a volunteer/s to help manage our web site. If you have web design experience and can help out, please contact Stephen Davis or chat with him at the November 2nd meeting.
Membership Dues

According to the bylaws, the dues are $12 per calendar year, prorated from July-December to $6. 
You can join or renew your membership at the Fall Meeting for $6. You must be current to vote for officers.
As a member, you have the right to vote, access to the library, or access to the club sales table or discounted hobby grower tables at the Show and Sale. If you have questions about your membership dues, please see Arthur Yin at the meeting.
