The Needle is the OSU Extension electronic announcements to help keep you informed about local workshops, tours, and other happenings for woodland landowners/managers in Benton, Linn and Polk Counties. 
Enhancing Special Habitats in Polk County - Free Panel Discussion
Speakers will give 10-15 minutes overviews of their project, followed by a question and answer period. NRCS and US Fish and Wildlife staff will also be available to answer questions about their programs

Property Tour and Equipment Demonstration
The Marion Polk Small Woodlands chapter is hosting a tour and equipment demonstration by Tom Repko of Small Woodlot Tools LLC.  Tom is a retired engineer who came up with and now manufactures a skidding grapple for 3-pt hitch on tractors.  Tom will also show us some simple physics that make working in the woods far more possible and enjoyable.

Directions: 
From Clow corner Rd between Dallas and Hwy 99, turn south on Cherry Knoll Rd.  Travel abou ¼ mile straight on Cherry Knoll.  At the first 90 degree turn, you will leave the road and go straight through the Repko’s gate, and proceed along the driveway about ¾ of a mile to home site and parking.  Watch for signs at the corner, and give Tom a call if you have questions, Tom Repko, 503 949-2209.

Creating a Pollinator Hedgerow: learn, plant, share
A pollinator hedgerow is a dense linear planting of native flowering shrubs meant to attract pollinating insects.  Join in establishing a demonstration pollinator hedgerow at the Matteson Forest.  Help plant and learn how to create one on your own property.  We will discuss sites selection, choosing and sourcing plants, design and maintenance.
