Atlanta Streets Alive: Southwest is Done, the Advocacy Continues

Atlanta Streets Alive: Southwest provided participants an opportunity to experience the rich history and culture along Cascade Avenue, Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard and Georgia Avenue, as well as support businesses along the route. The program also drew attention to the existing safety hazards on Cascade Avenue due to its proximity to two of the most dangerous streets in Atlanta’s High-Injury Network—Cascade Road and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard. Nearly 300 of you signed the petition, joining community members along Cascade Avenue in calling on the City of Atlanta to create a safer Cascade through the funded resurfacing project. Now, take the next step by downloading and sharing the Cascade Ralph David Abernathy Corridor Profile with your networks and contacting City Council in support of a safer Cascade Avenue.

State Routes as City Streets

Certain roads are more dangerous because of the values and design policies that go into making them. Frequent business and residential driveways, people driving at high rates of speed, and a lack of infrastructure for people with disabilities and people walking or biking are a few characteristics of state routes that also serve as city streets. In Atlanta, a number of the state routes are also High-Injury Network streets. Learn why some roads are more dangerous than others and take action by speaking up for safe streets for all.

Join Us for an Evening in Support of Safe Streets for Our Beloved City

Will you help us secure safe, welcoming, and equitable streets in our beloved city? We invite you to attend our Thursday, November 14 fall fundraiser to celebrate our progress and hear about our plans for a more livable and accessible Atlanta.

Our program for the evening will feature Jacob Tzegaegbe, senior transportation policy advisor to the mayor, sharing the City's work to make streets safer for ONE Atlanta.

Your presence and contributions will further our shared goals and position the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition for future advances towards safe streets for all Atlantans.

Pop-up LIT Lane Install Volunteers Needed

On Saturday, October 19th, we're helping the City of Atlanta and Midtown Alliance install the City’s first pop-up light individual transportation (LIT) lane on 10th Street. Volunteers are needed to help move barricades into place, apply spray chalk for markings, and hang signs. This demonstration project is a first step in addressing safety as part of the Bottoms Administration’s Action Plan for Safer Streets across Atlanta. Starting Saturday, October 19, the City will install a one-way, westbound LIT lane from Myrtle Street to Juniper Street in Midtown, connecting the ends of two existing LIT facilities.
